Another gem by an artist who is way overdue for recognition
Ramirez at his best; great songwriting, as usual, but now with a full band. His solo work is great, but some of his songs are so rich, they just cry out for more instrumental support. "Communion", the first cut is a perfect example, he let's the instruments go for an extended period and it's dynamite. His voice is a powerhouse, channeling Johnny Cash at times, but with a unique flavor. There's a level of quirkiness to a lot of the cuts on this album that really give it spice. It's the songwriting that really elevates Ramirez, though. He takes on the grittiest of emotions & experience. "How Do You Get 'Em Back" is right up there with "Bad Days" and "Stick Around" in the realm of "shake you by the collar" pleas/proclamations that almost everyone can relate to in one way or another. It would be great if this album finally gets him the recognition he deserves. He seems to have increased the "country music" feel on this album, compared to his solo work; that's not necessarily a bad thing but I just hope it doesn't work to have it dismissed by people who, with some justification, are turned off by a lot of the mainstream, right-wing country fare.

Great album--love seeing him live, too.
Great songwriter--great album and production. Great live performer as well.

Perfection
One of the most beautiful, heartbreaking albums I've heard in a long time. David Ramirez has one of those voices that both soothes and breaks me. His songs are honest and sad, and after he hurts me, I want to thank him.

This is his best CD so far
This is his best CD so far, and I have played it until I've memorized the words. "Communion" and "New Way of Living", plain incredible.

Another great album from David Ramiez
Another great album from David Ramirez. The songs connect because they are written about life as it real is. Raw.

An Undeniably Rich Experience
I discovered David Ramirez' music via Noisetrade and then happened to download Live in Fort Worth from his website. The concert is also viewable on YouTube . His songs are passionate, gritty, and lyrically compelling. When I heard that he was releasing a new album I was naturally intrigued. Then it was released on Amazon Prime so I got to hear it... "Fables" is my favorite album of 2015 so far. The songs themselves are high quality - each one resonates with undeniable honesty and vulnerability. I cannot pick a favorite yet because each one stands on it's own merits and demands the listener's attention. The production by Noah Gunderson - a fine songwriter in his own right - is rich in an organic manner ... Without pretense or gimmickry, the songs are allowed to breathe independently of one another but somehow maintain the sense of a song cycle. The album is not long but it has depth and thus provides the listener with an undeniably rich experience. "Fables" is well worth your discovery.

Heartbreaking Austin Music
Amazing album. I've seen David Ramirez on stage and he's a great performer; this album is also well done. If you can see this man in concert, please do. He's amazing.

This is by far the best album he's released
I've been a huge fan of this guy ever since I heard him first play the song "Strange Town" in a small coffee shop in Texas. The guy can sing, and with more than enough passion too. This is by far the best album he's released, and that's saying something since I can never grow bored with all of his others. Though I will say he took me by surprise with the more country sound to the music which I didn't think I'd like. Turns out, I love it. He's got the voice for country and folk. His often melancholy lyrics are sung with such passion and emotion that it leaves the spine tingling. There's not a lyric he sings that I can't relate to which is probably why I name him one of my favorite artist. Keep up the great work David.
