Rubie's Deluxe George Washington Costume

My 4th grade daughter was doing a wax museum and is obsessed with Alexander Hamilton (and did not throw away her shot to represent him at their wax museum)- this totally fit the bill! Overall it's typical costume quality but it's perfect for the price and for our need- would make a great book report/school project outfit or Halloween costume. As for size, we bought the medium which was a perfect fit for someone who is a size 8-10. Wear this costume and smile more because you look fabulous!

Fifth Grade Wax Museum was coming, and we needed a costume for a slightly higher denomination Founding Father than Washington who has been rather popular as of late. After looking at nearly all of the affordable colonial era costumes on the site and sifting through the reviews and pictures, we ended up going with this costume and were very pleased with our choice. Pros: * The jacket is substantial and well-finished for a costume jacket, and looked great after we steamed it * The vest and ascot are both well constructed, and looked good (even with painted-on buttons on the vest) * The breeches were solid enough to survive a couple of full days at school without tearing Cons: * The hat. Yeah. Just don't think of this costume as coming with a hat, and you should be fine * Shoes. Just find a good pair of boots, and they should work great Our son is 11 and on the smaller side, and a medium was on the snug side.

Costume is great quality (for a costume). Well made and looks are pictured. The hat is nothing to write home about, but I knew that based on previous reviews. We purchased a different hat for a president project at school. Seller shipped quickly per Amazon prime; costume was well-packaged. The problem: The desciption for this particular item lists Large (8 to 10 years). My 9 year old is average size and was swimming in it. I looked at the packaging and it did, indeed, say 8 to 10 years, but it also noted that LARGE 12-14. Had I known it was a 12-14 size, I would never have ordered it, regardless of the age specification. If you purchase clothing for kids you know there's a difference between size 8-10, sz 10-12, sz 12-14. Size 8-10 might be on the small side; if it fits, there's no room to grow and probably won't allow much freedom of movement. Size 12-14 has plenty of room to grow, but unless it's a fitted or elasticized garment, it wouldn't do. For my 9 year old I've purchased size 10-12 that is slightly big, but not so big that it would sag or be too baggy to stay up. I'd never buy a size 12-14. Had the size not been misleading in the description, I would have rated this 5-stars. The hat is workable, so I didn't deduct a star for it even though I purchased a more structured and better embellished version.

I had read the reviews before buying and they were a little mixed. Some people complained about the hat that comes with the costume and that it was cheap quality or couldn’t make it work so they bought a different hat to go with it. Well I bought a different one too just in case. Well I didn’t need to buy one. The hat that comes with it is perfect. It was only going to be a one time use for the most part anyways and I was completely satisfied. The outfit was perfect and fit my son just right. He’s 9 and is about 55 or 56 inches in height. He’s tall for his age. It came out great.

After studying the Revolutionary war last year, my son really became interested in George Washington. So much he wanted to dress as him for Halloween. I was really impressed with the costume. Seemed a little bit better made than most, and held up to him running around in it. And honestly, it saved me a TON of stress trying to figure out how to put a homemade one together. So, if you aren't handy with sewing, and want a stress free outfit, then this was worth every penny. I can see how this would be great for a school play also.

Overall the costume was good. The jacket was nice looked descent. The overall fit was way off for a 9 year old. it was way to big. we got away with wearing the Jacket but the pants did not work.

Reading the comments I was discouraged. But relieving my order was different. I ordered a Large but the pants were longer than expected which was okay because I was able to tuck it into the boot or cuff it enough to look right. Everything fit her perfect. I didn't know how to fix the yellow ribbon but I made it work. No complaints here satisfied with purchase.

We were actually surprised how good this costume looked, especially for the price. Had to make a few adjusts to work for us, but overall it was nice. The lining of the lapels needed to be tacked down so they wouldn't fall out. The sewn in jabot popped up and we had to pin it down. The tri corner hat that comes with it is fabric, very flimsy and messy looking. We had another hat to use. The pants are long, so they can be tucked in a boot.
