Worked great after 10 years in the bag
This had been stored unused but carried around in my emergency gear and various backpacking outings for about 10 years. I had to use it in an emergency situation last month and it performed perfectly to help a one adult cold water rescue.I'll be ordering more.

If you need to warm up while tripping on mushrooms, this does the trick!
I own a few of these, and I always carry one in my pack while out on a day hike, lest, being out in the wilderness, I need the extra warmth or I need to make a really really bare-bones shelter. Well, after years of hiking, I finally used it. A group of us ran into some college kids who decided to eat a handful of mushrooms at over 8000' elevation. Turns out one of them was having a bad trip; consequently, he was trying to run off the side of the mountain. Well, we decided to call search and rescue since he was a danger to himself. While we were waiting for the helicopter to airlift him out of there, we used this blanket both to pin him down (we sat on him) and to keep him warm. (It was getting dark/cold, none of them were wearing the right clothing for the elements, and the kid was wet from pissing himself.) Added bonus: when the helicopter got close, they were better able to spot us after I waved this blanket in the air; the orange/reflective surface comes in handy for signaling search and rescue. Lastly, I'll echo another reviewer who said this smaller blanket is good for only one use, especially if it gets wet. I certainly wasn't going to keep it after there was pee pee on it. But this blanket is so affordable, why not buy a few of them?

overall a good thing to have on hand on outdoor adventures
very thin mylar, but I suppose you would want it to be for back packing and hiking. weights very little. wish they would make a product with this material adhered to a studier blanket to give it more of a structural integrity. overall a good thing to have on hand on outdoor adventures.

Stay Alive, people, and these things can help
I'm a little stocky -- okay I'm a lot stocky. The 99 cent space blankets don't cut it for a cover-up. However, here's a tip if that's all you have -- take off your coat or sweater, wrap it around your torso, and then put your coat back on . . . at least it won't shred quite as fast. The SOL 1-2 person blanket, on the other hand, is big enough to actually wrap up in, keep the wind and snow off you, and probably buy you about 25-30 degrees of temperature protection. Let's face it, if you go out in a mid-west winter in yoga pants and a hoodie and get stranded, you are pretty well done for. This will NOT save your bacon in that scenario. On the other hand, it just might keep you alive long enough for someone with a vehicle to come along and save you. If you are actually pretty well prepared for the weather, but things get a bit worse than expected, this will help you a lot. Remember: First, don't die. Second, try not to lose any body parts to frostbite. Third, if you do something dumb and live through it -- make sure you, and everyone you know, never does that dumb thing again. A very good, inexpensive, first step is to have one of these PER PERSON, in your camping gear, bug-out bag, car bag, etc.

WAY BETTER than a typical mylar space blanket.
The key reasons I opted to purchase TWO of these are (1) GREATER DURABILITY & (2) LARGER SIZE.I'll let you use your imagination, as to all the advantages and uses this standard and form-factor provides and just focus on the cogent superiority ... As a tarp? As a Blanket ? As a Ground-Cloth ? SUPERIOR !This tarp/blanket can be re-used MANY times and will "stuff" back into a fairly small bag, easily. You can use the "Indian Button" (small stones) technique to fashion tie-outs or garment buttons, without tearing.Even a 300 pound "Bubba" can roll up in this thing, just like a burrito and tuck the bottom under his feet.It can stand up to fairly strong winds, even when tied-out, and can catch and carry water, as well.I am planning to purchase a 3rd one, to cut up and make a thermal shemagh, cap liners (between two watch caps). sock liners (between two sox), and maybe some sort of "core" thermal bib or dickey.Shelter (core temperature regulation) is even a higher priority than water filtration and disinfection ...Get this FIRST (two of them) ... A good fire-steel (or two) ... And at least one FRONTIER PRO Water Filter. There is absolutely NO reason not to have this inexpensive, pocket-sized life-saver in your EDC kit!Two of these, a Frontier Pro, and a Fire-steel will all fit in your pockets ... have these with you ALWAYS.That much ** WILL ** increase your chances of surviving the first 3 days by 1,000% (ten-fold).Ask Cody Lundin (Lun-deen) or Dave Canterbury ... Or even Bear Grylls (LoL).

Tougher than mylar
Had last one eight-years. Hear others saying this blanket's the same as mylar..., not so. Blanket's a lot tougher than regular mylar, yet it's ultralight. Carrying an emergency blanket or backpacking groundsheet, lightweight is crucial. This blanket is optimal combination of tough and lightweight. Gonna cost, but best-in-class always costs.

Great improvement over regular mylar.
These just work. They feel like a plastic trash bag, but they don't rip and are more durable than regular mylar blankets. My bud and I along with my dog used these one night to help insulate our popup during a Nor'easter and we were able to stay warm with these covering a couple walls and a space heater going. I tested one just over my sleeping bag and I actually had to take it off because it was too hot. These are not going to be nearly as durable as the tarp-backed emergency blankets, but they can still survive being roughed up a little. If you're looking for a better-than-mylar solution that's smaller/lighter/cheaper than the tarp-backed emergency blankets, I would recommend these without hesitation.
