These are listed as stainless steel and they feel like it. They are strong, but easy to open and snap closed. I am glad to have them. They are about 2.35". Would buy them again. Got these to attach our raft towrope to the ring on the motorboat transom to give it a more secure connection than just looping the rope around by itself. Stood up well to a full multi-hour session towing 3 teens on the raft behind the boat and didn't show any signs of letting go, slipping, etc.
