be careful of size
My chow has previously had a large collar which was just barely big enough. So, this time I ordered the size I thought would be a better fit. Much to my dismay, this thing is so huge I can't keep it on him and he hates it. You would think the next size up would be incrementally larger not five times larger. Very disappointed, but can't return because it's blown up and slightly used.

Comfortable alternative as long as the dog does not figure out how to remove it
Review of Cone Alternatives: With knee surgery, Wheaten Terrier who despised the vet’s plastic cone collar, we tried these alternatives:BooBooLoon – A plastic, blowup balloon that goes around the dog’s neck and upper shoulder area. Because it is semitransparent plastic, it was less intimidating than the solid materials. Easy to inflate (note: instructions say to inflate to half inflation. This makes the balloon lie closer to the neck and is more difficult for the dog to remove). It seems comfortable and the dog slept in it. Unfortunately, our dog figured out how to remove it after a couple of wearings. The BooBooLoon attaches with three Velcro circles on opposite ends. This makes it easy for humans to put on and take off. But if your dog has long legs and can figure out how to insert a front paw underneath their neck, they can exert enough force to break the connections made by the Velcro. Once they learn to remove it, it becomes a simple task to repeat. The BooBooLoon might work well for dogs with shorter legs, or those that never learn the removal method. It was well-received from a comfort point of view.Contech ProCollar Protective Collar – The winner for our dog. A solid blowup collar. You must use your dogs own collar on the inside to hold the procoller in place. As others have noted, many of today’s “pinch and release” buckle-type collars will not fit into the interior tabs to hold the collar on because the buckle is too large to pass through the tabs. We found that we could use ours, which had buckles that were about an inch large. This collar is easy to blow up and even contains a zippered section to protect the valve assembly. It is comfortable for the dog to rest her head. The owner must reach inside to close their own collar (which makes this just slightly harder to put on than the BooBooLoon, but it is worth the work), and the outside Velcro strap tightens the exterior of the blown-up collar. This makes it impossible for the dog to remove. Our dog was never able to get it off, got used to it after several wearing and slept nightly in this collar. The owner has the security of knowing that the dog will not be able to get this collar off during the night. This is definitely the choice we will continue to use.ProCone Soft Recovery Collar – Obviously more comfortable than the dreaded hard plastic cone, this was still not our dog’s favorite, although it is vast improvement over the hard cone. It is much softer, but the dog cannot see out of it. The genius of this collar is that the dog cannot remove it. It is affixed with a Velcro collar attached to the recovery collar with tabs all around the base of the collar. This Velcro collar can be hard to fool with – As a result, this is the hardest collar among the alternatives to get on and off - and you do have the alternative of inserting your own collar, which would be easier to take on and off. (That’s what we did, and we used the Mendota Products Double Braid Dog Collar, 9/16 by 14-Inch because our dog has a 13 inch neck). I’m not sure of the size of the tabs through which you must pass the collar on all sized, but it should be one inch or less wide for the medium sized collar) Once on, the owner also affixes the Velcro tabs arranged on the rest of the collar to secure the cone shape. It’s an excellent option for comfort and security, knowing the dog will not be able to remove it. Many dogs will probably like this, but because it covered most of her head and she could not see out of it, it simply was not our dog’s favorite.

Remarkable Invention!
What a relief! I received this cushion/collar yesterday and I am so satisfied with it. I had agonized over the discomfort my dog had to live within using the e collar. He is so comfortable wearing this BooBooLoon. This collar is also called a Kong Cushion. My dog, a 4 y.o Weimaranerhas a rare condition involving a problem with calcium that prevents his post op wound from healing. He will have to have a skin graft. It is imperative that he does not lick the open wound. Needless to say, in addition to the nightmare of the situation, I agonized having to putthe e collar on him. It looked like the end of the collar pushed into his neck and he had to endure having to breathing in the odorous plasticaround his face. This cushion/collar leaves his face free and he can eat, drink, sleep and chew his bones in comfort. The cushion has to be inflated just 1/2 full of air. I used an air pump (used to inflate a pool float). I think that it can be inflated by blowing into it, but I am unsure The company customer care is very helpful and they can tell you about that. I highly recommend this product and thank whoever invented it!

Only for single pet homes!!
I bought this item because mt dog was having his tail amputated, and, it would have worked perfectly to keep him off vb it post surgery, however, our other dog jumped up and grabbed it only 20 minutes after he had it on and it POPPED! Not for multipet homes.....

Great product for keeping your dog away from stitches and your walls free of dents!
Works great and is a better alternative to the traditional plastic e-collers. This one does not dent your walls!!

Defective product
This product arrived defective. It is unusable and will not hold air because the valve is smaller than the valve hole. Apparently, this seller has no more of this product in stock. Now, I understand why. What I don't understand is why anyone would purposely sell something defective. Never again.
