WORKS WITH ALL MY DEVICES
This works perfect for my portable outdoor projector, and allows for a very clean setup. I have a powered speaker that sits right behind the projector, facing the viewers. This is one of the few adaptor that I can plug directly into my projector, run a very short cable to my speaker, and then have one HDMI cable from my device, or in the case of Chromecast, plug directly in. Most other HDMI to VGA adaptors have a male HDMI connector (which means you need an HDMI coupler for the Chromecast), and female VGA connector (so you need a VGA cable, which I donโt have just sitting around these days). Also, it means I would need to run a longer unbalanced (and potentially noisy), audio cable to my speaker. As soon as I received this adaptor, I immediately tested it with all my devices and projector, which is an Epson PowerLite 1705c (EMP-1705). This worked perfectly well with all of the following: Macbook Pro (DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor) AppleTV 3: Netflix (didn't test w/ iTunes videos) PS3: bluray, Netflix, Amazon Chromecast Samsung bluray player Caveats: - my projector cut off the image when set to 1080p, but fit perfect when set to 1080i, or 720p - if audio is not available or noisy, make sure audio from your device is not set correctly Bonus: - This adaptor does not need any sort of power supplyโit just works!

It does it's job and it does it well
Works great; no unwanted scaling and therefore no lag! I am using a separate audio source however so I cannot testify for the quality of the headphone jack in this, neither for the durability as I only got it recently. Oddly there's no glue holding the housing together, you can just kinda claw it open. Normally this would definitely be a downside or a flaw, but I honestly don't mind this, in fact I like being able to open a product screwdriverless and without damaging it. I can't say too much about picture quality as I don't have much to compare it to, but it seems there was no loss in quality at all. There is no scaling after all, meaning the signal coming in to the monitor is pretty much lossless. It worked great on my CPD-G400 and sent through all the correct resolutions allowing for the full extent of my monitor's resolution and refresh rate support. That is by the way. More than 1080p! The adapter did my monitor's 1800x1440@70Hz perfectly fine. Even odd resolutions, like 1800x480@95Hz worked great.

Exactly what I was looking for!
I had a recent home project where we put a computer in the foyer for the kids to use (family computer). We didn't want to have an actual computer there, so I used my old HTPC in my rack in my utility room. Because of this, I had to run video and USB to the wall where the monitor would go. I didn't want to run VGA because if the monitor dies, I want to replace it with one capable of HDMI input. When I went searching for a way to turn the HDMI into either VGA or DVI WITH audio, I thought I would end up with some bulky box behind the monitor. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this adapter. It allows me to split the HDMI into VGA and Audio in a small package without having to have an additional power requirement. The only issue I've run into is the speaker bar for my monitor slightly obstructs the audio cable coming out of this, but that is in no way the fault of this adapter and ultimately they still work together without issue. I had absolutely no issue in Windows 10 using this either. It just worked when I plugged it in. I got sound and video.

Device works with typical HDMI outputs but not low power devices
The product I am reviewing is the Tendak Active 1080P Female HDMI to VGA Male Converter Adapter Dongle with 3.5mm Stereo Audio. UPDATE: After leaving my original review the manufacturer contacted me and said that they thought the product I received was simply defective and offered to send a replacement. Based on my research and the fact that the device was partially working I had incorrectly assumed that the issue was with the core design (self-powered HDMI to VGA converter typically pushes the limits of what HDMI ports can provide). As it turns out I was wrong and it was actually a defective device. The adapter works with a fairly low power laptop as well as on-board Intel video output (1080p video and stereo sound were tested). Nice clear picture, no noise in the video or audio. Note that it does not work with a Raspberry PI 2 B nor an Odroid-C0, not that I was expecting it to. Small dev boards like these often have very low power output on the HDMI port but I thought it might be useful to know for others with these types of devices. Low power devices will almost certainly require externally powered converters. Minus 1 star for quality control and replacement shipping from China (original was ordered locally, this is also why it took so long to re-review). Ironically the alternative product I ordered when this first one wasn't working is now itself no longer working; hopefully this one will continue to work. I left my original review below so that if others encounter similar issues they will know to seek a replacement rather than tossing the device. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Device permits HDMI attached computers to detect the monitor (including correct model and resolution) but fails to actually display an image. Test with multiple monitors, graphics cards, computers, and cables. All combinations had the same result. HDMI output of all GPUs functions as expected when connected to other HDMI displays. VGA inputs of displays function correctly when connected using VGA output from GPUs.

Had high expectations...
I got this so I could hook up my Fiances' PS4 up to an extra monitor so we could both play in the same room. The monitor doesn't have a audio outlet so I figured this would work fine. Plugged everything up within 2 minutes. Sound came through for about 10 minutes then whole screen went dark. Then it kept popping in an out every 5 seconds. The monitor is brand new and the other HDMI spot works fine. It's this device. Not sure if I got a bad model or what but I will just have to spend a little extra on something else that I know will work...

Old projector and chromecast
I bought it to connect an old InFocus X1 Video Projector to my chromecast but it didnโt work. I see a flicker and then the projector trying to connect to the source. It works with my laptop and the projector using hdmi cable and the converter. It also works using chromecast and an old monitor but the combination projector chromecast is not working. Any suggestions? Thank you

Good picture but bad audio
Either the audio is bad or I just got a defective one. First the good. I'm hooking up retro systems (SNES, PS 1, Gamecube, PS2 and Wii). I have modern component cables for each system and run them through the OSSC (a component and VGA scaler with HDMI output). This device is needed so that I can hook the HDMI to a VGA monitor. The results are great. The picture quality is very good. When it comes to the audio, I have issues. For stereo sound, I only get one channel. The other channel is very weak. I believe it is the right side audio (red input). Now this isn't to much of a problem as I can take the audio plugs and put it through headphones or speakers. However, it is keeping me from a 5 star review. As a side note: I realized I can hook up my PS TV. I tested it out and it looks good. But I have to set the resolution to 480p and adjust my monitor screen to get the right aspect ratio. The problem is I can't have an audio solution like I would with my intended setup.

The only adapter you should use if you need to connect a modern device to a CRT display
If you want to use a CRT monitor with a modern computer this is the cheapest and most effective adapter. Even if other cheap HDMI to VGA adapters also don't have any input lag they will almost always crush the black levels which loses so much details in darker scenes. The 3.5mm audio out is also nice since it allows me to just output audio to the speakers next to my CRT monitor automatically whenever I play a game on it. I'm not sure how well it can handle high resolution and refresh rate CRTs but it's flawless at 1024x768 @ 75hz.
