Great for homemade vinegar, not kombucha
We use this to make vinegar. It works well, its a great size for small batches of vinegar. It is a gallon but the mixture will bubble a lot so you don't want this if you're making a gallon of something, so keep that in mind. The anaerobic process is what you can do with this topper, which is for vinegar. If you're making kombucha, that is an aerobic process (until the carbonation, when you seal it) so you could still in theory use the jar for your ferment and a cheesecloth top.

Great for making cider, mead, or beer!
I ordered this jar to ferment some apple cider into hard cider. It held the juice just fine and allowed me to add multiple fruits for some added flavor. The bubble airlock works very well and had no leaks. Overall, this is great glassware for the price.

Just as advertised
I bought this to make kimchi. Such a great buy! No more burping or smelly kitchen. It's actually a gal size and I've used the jug for making tea and it works great.

Great for wine
This is a useful, open mouth jar with a lid set up for adding an airlock. The one suggestion I would give to someone trying to put the grommet in the lid, is to do so from the inside of the lid, so the seal gets captured cleanly by the grommet and doesn't get bunched up or twisted. You want the foam seal to be smooth and under the grommet, so the container is airtight. I got mine wet with sanitizing solution and it popped right in. I use this jar for wine, when I want to add raisins or fruit to the mix. The wide mouth makes it easy for both adding things and cleaning. It also makes it easy to stir gently if I add yeast nutrient at stages during fermentation. Edit: I took a star away, because the airlock is a type i do not like. It's cap allows tiny fruit flies to enter the airlock, whereas the red capped airlocks do not. I have to keep changing the airlock, to keep it clean.

Perfect for Secondary Fermentation of Wine and Mead
I use these jars to condition wine and mead especially if I need to back-sweeten. A full gallon goes right to the base of the neck keeping headspace small. The wide mouth gives me room to carefully stir in additional sugar/honey when needed and avoid oxygenating the must. The center-aligned grommit is the way to go. I ordered a version of this with the offset grommit and the lid rotation on closing pulled the lid liner off the grommit. This version did not have that problem. I've ordered several of these and they've worked perfectly. Will be ordering more.

Great for Kombucha!
I've been using these jugs for 2 years now and they've been great. The lid seems kinda cheaply made but that's fine because I ferment Kombucha in them. No residual odors or left over residue to date. A great first timers fermentation jug.

Fermentation at it's finest
Use to make mead in college with a similar setup. It's been thirteen years, but this kit made setup easy and quick. It even has the same style of air gap for the lid. Very nice.

Great for ginger beer
Wanted to try fermenting my own ginger beer and this worked great! Totally worth the price, would have bought more than one but there was only one left in stock when I ordered. The top piece is made of plastic but feels strong and sturdy. The glass jar is easy to clean. Love it, will purchase again.

Lid is cheap and one of the airlocks was broken
The lid on this is a weird cheap double-layered lid which separates which means the rubber stopper that the airlock fits into doesn't clip on cleanly. Also the airlock I received was broken - the neck was snapped off. I'm a little puzzled as to how this could happen during shipping because it was inside the glass jar, but it was broken nonetheless. The jars are not unusable, but I was disappointed with the quality.
