Even I was surprised by Fiskars 8lb Splitting Maul!
I purchased this Fiskars 8lb splitting maul for my husband back in February of 2021. My husband was skeptical at first. He's a concrete worker but in the off season he sells firewood. As a result he has used a lot of splitting mauls. So when he heard me turning into a Fiskars salesman hyping it up because I was proud of my confident decision to buy him one, he was concerned I had gotten brainwashed by some Fiskars ad. The look on his face when it arrived and he was about to swing it said he was ready to show me I had probably made a dumb decision because what would I know about what he needs for splitting wood. Swing after swing with this maul his face slowly changed. He never actually admitted to me that it is a good maul. I overheard him telling one of his firewood customers that it's the best maul he's ever split wood with. It's durability is amazing! It works so good that splitting wood became my new favorite cardio exercise. You want to strengthen your core? Swinging an 8lb Fiskars splitting maul at some dry seasoned oak not only burns the same calories as HIIT or Rucking (about 400 to 700 calories per hour) but watching the wood split is oddly satisfying and it's a good side hustle. In fact, we both like this maul so much that two years ago (it's now December 13, 2025) we started actually having little spats over who got to use it. So, I'm buying myself one because... "YES! It works that good." I just realized when I purchased the one I bought him I never wrote a review for it and people need to know how good the Fiskars 8lb splitting maul is and who could have guessed it would turn wood splitting into being my favorite form of exercise. And at 700 calories per hour whew, it's worth learning how to split wood with it for me. He can wield the chainsaw until my new Fiskars maul comes in the mail.

Highly recommend this top-tier bushcraft gear.
This Fiskars 8 lb. Splitting Maul is an absolute beast! The 36" shock-absorbing handle makes splitting wood surprisingly comfortable, even for tough hardwood. The forged steel blade is incredibly sharp and durable, making quick work of logs for campfires. It's truly a pleasure to use and feels incredibly well-balanced. If you need a reliable and effective wood splitter, this is it!

Definitely worth it
Let me start by saying that I hate Mauls. This one makes work quick and fairly easy. I’ve got some elm that sat around for a year and this maul made quick work of it. I also have some fresh fallen red pachyderm that was super easy to split. The elm was the impressive part. I have torn my labrum in my shoulder several years ago, had it surgically repaired and was a little concerns about the weight but the 8lbs makes splitting fairly quick and fairly simple. While my muscles are a little sore, my shoulder is fine. I am a larger guy (6.4/220) so the mechanical advantage is definitely noticeable with this maul. I definitely recommend this maul!

Annoyingly good
It's the best maul I have ever owned. It works so well it's annoying, actually. I prefer tools with wood handles, but I can't argue with the results. The isocore handle is also pretty comfortable to use, and this thing is basically indestructible. I mean how do you beat that? It's not fair. But it is what it is.

Best splitting maul I own!
My son and I have a small-time roadside firewood stand so we split a fair amount of wood. Mostly we use a hydraulic splitter, but sometimes you need a maul so if you’re looking stop now and buy this one. It’s pretty heavy, which is both a pro and a con. It’s nice to have a smaller splitter for smaller stuff, but if I could only have one it would be this one. The extra weight is nice when tackling tough wood. The handle is surprisingly well balanced and comfortable. I prefer it to my wood handles, which I was not expecting. The orange part is very grippy and handle profile is perfect in my opinion. Nice balance too considering the weight of the head on this. The head profile works great on tough pieces and came sharp enough for a maul. Fair price for what you get especially compared to other options out there. Item arrived later than anticipated but no big deal to me. Wouldn’t change a thing and highly recommend this splitting maul.

Great maul
It’s a great maul. It isn’t the sharpest out of the box. It splits great though and great for hitting in wedges. I missed a wedge and hit the handle and it cracked it just from that. If you’re not 100% accurate you might crack it but even after cracking it it’s still really sturdy.

What a performer!
It splits wood as it's supposed to. Not the sharpest but still works well with the hefty weight. The only thing I can think that needs adjustment is the handle. It's a little too round for my grip making the maul to twist a little bit when swinging. Durability seems to be there. Time & more use will tell how robust it truly is. Based on first impression, I recommend this item.

Great tool!
Does the job on knotty, green black oak! Fun to use! This and a quality splitting axe are a dynamic duo for firewood and great exercise!
