Why is the product size sometimes inaccurate when compared with online details?

Because this is a handmade product so the size may vary in a range of 1/4 inch.

Does this product have an unpleasant smell ?

Will the wicker end poke out of the basket and loosen?

Yes, you may see some wicker ends hiding inside or poking out a little, As 100% handmade products may contain imperfections, and the length of natural material is limited.
