The Earth Chronicles Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to the Seven Books of The Earth Chronicles

A MUST HAVE 'ALTERNATIVE' GUIDE TO ANCIENT PERSONS, PLACES & THINGS!
I'm new to the whole "Earth Chronicles" phenomenom and "ZS" in general, now well into book II. Obviously this is fascinating and controversial material and I find that having the "Earth Chronicles Handbook" nearby as a quick reference allows me to get some back story and understanding of names, words or places that ZS uses in his commentary. If you are reading the Earth Chronicles and are as into it as I seem to be then the "Comprehensive Guide" is a must have.UPDATE - MARCH 2015:I still keep this book close at hand on my nightstand for quick reference, especially when reading another authors work concerning biblical mythology or ancient history. I find myself thinking, "Hmm, I wonder what Sitchin's take or interpretation is on this? More often than not, I have found that ZS has elaborated on that particular name or personality, place or thing; this adds nuance and helps to flesh out a more comprehensive understanding of whatever the subject happens to be.I have read some of the reviews that are disappointed that there is no "cross-reference" to his various Earth Chronicles books, etc. I admit that could be helpful, especially if this "guide" (more a comprehensive dictionary as someone else pointed out) is ONLY being used as a reference guide to those books. In that respect, I have to say that the subtitle is to blame, as it would tend to lead one to that conclusion. However I find that notion just a bit myopic. For me personally this book has been an invaluable "cross-reference" to all the other works I've been reading for the past 4 years. So evidently it has worked for me. What is disappointing; is looking something up only to find that ZS or his editors did not include it into the book; that's how much I rely on ZS's unique take on things. It's good to have an alternative view no matter what the subject.I find that I usually pick the "guide" up for one thing, and then turn a page and get sucked into a whole other line of inquiry, it can be that compelling, and definitely is unique. I would not want to make do without it.

MUST HAVE Companion Guide to the Earth Chronicles...
The book is written as a Dictionary/Encyclopedia for the terms used in Sitchin's Earth Chronicle series of books. Anyone that has read, or is reading his books, knows there are hundreds of new terms for the reader which can be extremely difficult to keep track of. I have read three books so far and am working on my 4th and I have almost 20 pages of notes on a yellow pad to help keep track when I decided to pick up this reference book and I am so glad I did to look up the many various terms and names... These get confusing, especially since the same person may have different names depending on whether we are reading the Sumerian name, Akkadian name, Babylonian name, Egyptian name... of the same person; for example, EN.KI, who is also EA and PTAH (in Egyptian), or Noah, aka Utnapishtim in Akkadian, or Ziusudra in Sumerian language/texts. Taking notes AND having this reference book is critical to keeping track or looking up this or that...The book is extremely well organized, cross referencing terms, and providing the origin of the word; is it a Sumerian (bold text), Akkadian, Canaanite or Hebrew term (Italics), Egyptian (Capital letters)... Also, if the interpretation of something is that of Sitchin, the reference will include 'ZS'.Also, I highly recommend you get the hardcover version of this book and the Kindle version of the other books!!!! I say this because the font size in the paperbacks is so small that it will dissuade many from finishing the book (at least my my 50+ year old eyes) so the Kindle version lets you adjust the font size making for easy reading and the Kindle version include pictures. However, since this book is a reference book, you need a 'real book' to flip through to look up stuff as you read his others works - this would be a pain in the backside if you had to look up words in the Kindle version while you read. So get the hardcover version. In addition, this reference book is rich in general information like who where the Hittites, Canaanites, and The Adam...If you are reading the works of Sitchin then you will find this book invaluable.

A terrific series of books by a prolific author
A terrific series of books by a prolific author. This is a paperback set of books and I consider this a good buy. However, I was a little surprised by thesmall size of the print and the contrast of the print on the off white pages....making reading the books a little more difficult than I had expected. Just make sure you have plenty of light and some good reading glasses on hand. A nice buy all in all.

A Great Research Tool !
A good tool for those who are deeply involved with Sitchin's work and books. This is a glossary for much of his material. His work is so exhausting that without this book it is difficult to keep the details straight. If you are just starting with his work I advise you to have this book from the start.I recommend that a person start with his first book "The Twelfth Planet" andwork through them in order of publication. His work is a real eye opener.

Earth Chronicles review
The definitions were thorough, but not tied by reference to any book or page number. There was no concordance type approach to be able to compare and contrast between books or by subject or theme. It was more like a dictionary of terms than a serious research tool. It was disappointing to see so much original, solidly documented evidence go into the book series, yet not into the handbook. I'm still waiting and hopeful that a serious research reference work will be compiled by the author. All the material is there. It merely needs to be indexed properly.

Important Reference
This is an important reference book if you're a student of the Sitchin cuneiform translations and own his books. Libraries were discovered in the 1800's in the Tigris Euphrates area and the information has been translated. Sitchin has done a good job of revealing the information.

A guide to other books by this writer
A well written book providing summarized details of the main characters, events and names appearing in the seven books by Zecharia Sitchin. This books is a good companion to the other books as it acts as a supplement and reference to the other books. In general, books written by this writer appear to be well researched. The book contains explanation and justification of the various topics covered, whilst it does not force opinion on the reader.
