I'm Going to Be a Big Brother! Hardcover – April 1, 2007

I sent this book to my daughter to have her read it with her 8 yr. old son. He being the big brother. I had read the details of this book, but didn't read the entire book, because I had ordered it on line. She got the book in the mail and right away her son wanted to read it. So she let him read it out loud to her. When he started to giggle and try to pronounce the words "birth canal" and "uterus" in shock my daughter grabbed the book and saw a drawing of a somewhat naked woman with a baby in her uterus and a line drawn down to where the baby would come out. She finished to read the rest of the book and now had to answer some tough questions she was not prepared for. She then called me in shock and said next time she would preread all the books I send her son, my grandson. I was a little emarrassed, but glad he had learned about life from his mom. We bought this for our 4 year old grandson in preparation of the birth of his little sister. He has a lot of questions and the book addresses those questions in a simple and straight forward fashion. I was a little confused by the negative reviews stating too much for little ears, but we have always tried to provide honest answers to our children and grandchildren's questions on life. The birth of a child is a wonderful and beautiful event and this book does a very good job of explaining what's happening to little observant children.

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old son. It is perhaps a little beyond his age but not much. This book written from the perspective of anticipating the baby's arrival and what it will be like when mommy goes to the hospital, and when the baby comes home. I appreciate how it can help children make sense of changes that are happening in the home in preparation for the baby, and help them anticipate what will happen when its time for the baby to be born and be brought home. Some books focus more on "now that baby is here" which is also great, I think some of both is helpful.

My son is 27 months, we are expecting in May and I bought this book to help prepare him. It is a wonderfully written and illustrated book but too advanced for my little guy. I now just pick out the 'important' parts and do a cliff note version when reading to him. There is a lot of text and he lost interest. I would recommend it just realize that you will have to alter it a bit for the younger ones.

My 3 yr old grandson, soon to be big brother, enjoyed this book and the pictures. It was good cause he had lots of questions and we were able to carry on a good conversation. We are happy with the book. At first I thought it might be of been too advanced for him but he took to it almost right away. I changed the name of the boy in the book to his name and that made it fun for him too. Also the mom and dad were "his" mommy & daddy. Glad I got it for him.

Great book. I got it for my 5 year old and 3 year old boys. In my opinion, the drawing of the uterus is appropriate and doesn't show too much. But, in my family we call things by their anatomical names and explain everything at age appropriate levels. None of this was a surprise for my kids.Attached is the "offending" illistration.

The book was informative in telling the big brother what to expect when his little sister arrives.

I think this book did a great job preparing my two year old for our new addition. The only complaint I would have is the writing on each page can be a little long so it looses his attention but the illistrations are good so we keep him engaged with that. Overall very good book.

Helped when baby sister was coming into the family

Was very good for Granson to get use to having baby in family. He was very happy with it and being a brother

Ideal for our 6 year old son. Went into just enough detail to settle his nerves about changes in his mother's body. Informative about interaction with new baby. But all put across in a fun & enjoyable manner.Highly recommended!
