The first female group to top the Billboard singles chart, a feat achieved in 1960, and the first to display any degree of consistency (they would return to the summit in 1962), The Shirelles enjoyed a brief and successful chart career at the start of the 106s. They would eventually be over-hauled by several acts from the Motown stable (most notably The Marvelettes and The Supremes), but this does not diminish the importance of The Shirelles by any stretch of the imagination. Baby Its You was the groups fourth album for the Scepter label and the first to chart, peaking at #59 on the Billboard album listings. Its progress was helped by the presence of a #1 hit single in Soldier Boy, the Top Ten hit Baby Its You and two further chart hits in Big John (Arent You Gonna Marry Me) and The Things I Want To Hear (Pretty Words). Indeed, so popular had The Shirelles become, Scepter felt confident to include a picture of the group on the front cover, with Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, Addie Harris and Beverley Lee being joined by producer Luther Dixon for a very relaxed photo shoot.

Durch Zufall gefunden
Ăber Instagram bin ich auf The Shirelles' Lied "Baby it's You" gestolpert.
