Sunrite Ackee

I had been looking for this all over New Orleans, in the Asian and carribean stores but was unable to purchase it..Something to do with tarrifs and such...I still have one can left which I am about to use today...I will definintely purchase more in the future...thank you so much...also for the Walkers Wood Jerk Seasoning...I've missed this authentic Jamaican staple especiall when I want something out of the ordinary..on chicken, fish and pork...you cant beat..I even put it my potato salad and it give it that special kick..everyone loves it.

Disclaimer: I purchase this locally so this review will focus on the product and not price or shipping. That said, I am thrilled that ackee is now readily available. Not too long ago it was banned and was difficult to get at any price.This brand has the 'scrambled egg' consistency and the characteristic nutty flavor hints of quality ackee. I use it exclusively to satiate my appetite for salt cod - a dish I love and totally different from the Italian baccala I grew up eating.In addition to flavor and consistency, I love this brand because it's simple and natural. The can contains only ackee, water and salt. More importantly - for me - is the sodium per serving is only 125mg. Each can contains about five servings. Another thing is this is pretty high in good minerals and vitamins like potassium (270mg) and calcium (83mg) and has 30mg of vitamin C.As I said above, I am fortunate that I can get this locally. However, considering how scarce ackee was during the ban I would have gladly paid a premium price and am happy that I can order it online if I cannot find it locally. This is one of my favorite brands, which adds to my perception of value.
