Mom's Pizza and Perm
If we came home from school and that tell-tale aroma of ammonia meant that Mom and her friends had spent the day giving one another home perms. It was the immediate indicator that there would be a Chef Boyardee pizza for dinner that night!Move forward a few years and it's time for those school group projects. Everyone wanted to do it at my house because they knew my mom would be making us pizza. So, what makes this great? It's a combination of the dough - yeasty enough to expand and support toppings and the sauce - a deeply rich, well spiced (seasoned) tomato based goodness.Everyone got a little section of the tray pizza (we were a big family!) and put our favorite toppings on and then they would get covered in piles of cheese, sprinkled with oregano, basil and anise seed and then dusted with salt right out of the oven.Perfection. Oh, and well coiffed women.

A favorite since I was a kid
This pizza kit was the second thing I learned to cook, the first being English Muffen pizzas! I am very snobbish when it comes to pizza, and I have loved this kit since I was about 8 years old. Its also one of the few foods i can eat after chemo that i can still taste!! I add about 1/2cup extra flour to the mix, a little extra water and then set the bread machine to the dough setting and let it do all the hard work. Then I add about a tablespoon of EV olive oil. I come back in about 10 minutes and i have perfect dough! I like thin crust, so the extra flour allows me to use a 16" pizza pan and roll it out to the edge. One can of sauce is NEVER enough for two 16" pizzas so I also order the 12 pack of Chef Boy RD sauce from Amazon. (All the stores around me stopped selling them.) And I make a childhood treat for myself and the family. I just gave the last 2 kits I bought here as Christmas gifts to friends that have never had it before. Yup, they love them. Got 2 new customers! The flavor does not seem to be for everyone, a few of my friends and family hate the flavor. Can't please everyone, but it's one of my favorite treats, I always keep 2 kits on hand.

Great price
I love making pizzas with chef Boyardee. Everything you need is in the box, just add your favorite toppings. Can’t beat the price, much better than in the grocery store.

No Cheese
I remember making Chef Boyardee Pizza when we first got married, loved them. Everything you need was in the box. Not anymore, they don’t give you any cheese. There used to be a packet of shaker cheese in the box. Now it is just the powder to make crust and sauce. Glad I had shaker cheese and some sharp cheddar in the fridge and it turned out very good.

The best!
I’ve eaten this as a kid to adult growing up. This pizza has never let me down for some feel good food. I was surprised to find the cheese was no longer included but i always have Parmesan cheese in the house so it’s no big deal. If you asked me where to get my favorite pizza honestly it’s right in this box haha! The smell and flavor are pretty much the same. I think the difference for me is in the 90’s we had old rationed crisco that my mom wiped on the pan and not what we have now. Other than that I’d say it 99% the same. Love it and will always have a box in my house

Childhood favorite
Chef Boyardee pizza kits were a staple of my childhood and a favorite meal for my siblings and I to prepare with Mom.I’ve used these for inclusive meal activities in classrooms & as a treat for the various children in my life.Besides the fun and ease in making our own pizzas- it was so tasty and a good middle ground alternative to frozen or take out pizza. It was also an affordably priced family meal. (Don’t know exactly how much it was during my childhood in the 80’s and in Europe where I grew up- but a few years ago in the notoriously expensive Hawaii- it could be found at Walmart & Target for between $2 to $5 per double kit). Now it’s super hard to find & ridiculously priced.I caved & bought it despite the price mainly due to nostalgic reasons. While still tasty & easy/fun to make- it’s not the same as it was during childhood or even a few years ago. The sauce is different and lacks the proper flavor- I had to add a few things to get it to my liking. The crust was still excellent and came out perfectly- also have a few tricks from days of making it with Mom to ensure optimum pizza experience.I was annoyed that it no longer comes with that little packet of Parmesan cheese. Luckily I always have some on hand.Barring the minor changes in the flavor of the sauce and the obnoxious markup on it- I still really like and enjoy these pizza kits and will occasionally buy them again.
