Midwest Basswood Carving Block Bag

I ordered this as my husband is into woodcarving. He normally uses lime wood but I saw this and thought he would like to have a go with Basswood. It came in a pack of 6 small blocks which are ideal for small projects. We are going to make some tree decorations for xmas but you could make small toys little figures chess pieces or small candle holders. The pieces are various sizes but average about 3 inch by 2inch...some a little smaller. This is a really economical way of testing how you get on with various types of wood. The blocks themselves are lovely and clean and tightly grained. They carve easily and dont split or 'fray' so you get a really good finish. Im very happy with this buy and think its great value for money.

As described. All the wood was good and usable, no craft-ending knots. Soft and easy to shape for beginners.

I nearly didn't persevere with this purchase as it took a while for amazon to fulfill the order, which was fine as it was a silly stocking filler. I read the reviews, most of which were scathing. However I hung on as I said because it was a silly gift to go with a pen knife present. I received the wood today and I am so very very impressed. There are 8 pieces of cleanly cut basswood. some in cubes, some cuboid, brilliant for a first time wood carver and also for his father who has a penchant for carving nesuke, I'm contemplating getting a second set at a pound a block I think this is very good value for money!!!

Not used it yet a couple of them had splits in but should be able to take most of it out ok for the money

Nice and soft wood for carving. If you are starting carving this is a good starting wood.
