Best 10 speed chain for any road bike
My original chain collected about 2500 miles and was showing some stretch. I heard that a stretched chain can wear out the gears and drive train quickly so having expensive SRAM Force components, I was looking to get a new chain that wasn't super expensive and would be very quiet, knowing that at the rate I collect miles, I would be tossing this chain in the trash before the season is over. This chain has been perfect for the money. My old chain had hollowed links that really didn't make the bike any faster but did a great job of trapping more sand and grit, which this chain doesn't do nearly as much due to not having all those extra spaces for all that bad road grime to get caught in and cling to. The chain is scary quiet after a fresh cleaning and lubing. It shifts well and has shown little wear in the 1500 miles I currently have on it. There is some stretch at this mileage and also due to my spirited riding style and climbing, but I anticipate a good 1000 more miles and that is enough to get me through the Fall before I put the bike away for the winter. I will definitely be re-ordering this chain when it's time to put a fresh chain on in the Spring and start up my riding season again. I'm convinced that all those hollowed links and pins aren't a gimmick, but they aren't where us everyday riders need to be spending the extra bucks on our bike maintenance. This is by far the most popular chain and having a master link that you can take apart 3 times or so to break the chain down and give it a thorough cleaning while also tuning and cleaning up the bike is a major plus that shimano and SRAM chains can't offer. UPDATE: I now have over about 2000 miles on this chain and it is performing flawlessly. I checked it for stretch and I wouldn't say there is none, but it isn't much for this mileage and my abusive on the chain riding style. I have maintained this chain the same way I did the more expensive and perforated link KMC chain and there is much more stretch and movement between the links. Not sure what different materials they used to make this less fancy chain, but it is definitely winning in the durability, quiet, and value categories. Thought about trying a fancy gold colored hollow pin and perforated link KMC chain for my next chain, but after seeing how little this one has worn I am going to stay with this one for sure!!!

Very Happy - Easy to Install and Perfect Fit
Simple to install and a very reasonable price. Way better than wearing out a cassette.

Good chains for tough conditions
I'm a year-round bike commuter in Wisconsin, so I put my chains through four very distinct seasons and all weather extremes. Knowing this, my LBS recommended this chain along with some other winterizing tricks when they built my commuter bike (such as rebuilding the hubs with lighter grease, spoke upgrades, and so-on). I've now been through a few of these chains and put 2,000-2,500 miles of frequent shifting and good cadence on each one before they stretched enough to run rough enough on the drivetrain to be worth replacing (chains are cheaper than good cranks and much easier to replace). I've put these chains through torrential rain, wind, dust, dry sand, wet salty sand, fresh road brine, rock salt, greasy conditions, mud, slush, ice rain, etc; they've seen air temps from 105°F to -20°F, and on a daily basis they get pushed hard up rolling hills on a heavily loaded bike. Never seen any rust and I haven't had one break on me. What more can I say? I do give my bike basic routine maintenance--don't need to be overly anal, but yes, you need to clean and lube your chain periodically. Once in a while I use a Chain Pig or similar with Clean Streak to clean, and I regularly use White Lightning Wet Ride for lube. I run these on a Shimano 50/34 compact road crankset and a Shimano 10-speed mountain cassette on an adult large frame. Don't need to add or subtract any links--116 is just right for this and shifting is excellent when everything is adjusted correctly. I don't give many 5-stars, but I think these chains have earned it. Only way I could be happier is if I could get Shimano's own XT or Ultegra-grade chain design with KMC's anti-corrosion technology.

Quiet, well lubricated from factory, and perfect for the 10 speed!
Getting back into cycling and this chain was the perfect replacement. I only had to pop a few links out to match the old chain's length and it went on like a charm. It comes with the master links, fit on great and seems like it'll be durable for the long haul. I like that it was pre-waxed and felt ready to go from the box!

Nearly half the cost of the SL version and only 10grams heavier. Buy it!
Not that I'm a weight weenie nor a gram counting OCD (in a good way, of course) road cyclist who frets about gaining 50 grams from the addition of any new component or shiny object, but when I ordered this chain, I did worry this was going to be a boat anchor of a chain. The old chain was apparently (KMC X10SL) was apparently too short and causing a bit too much tension and making the whole drivetrain have more friction than there should be. New chain time and given that this bike is neither ridden every day nor especially fast, I decided it didn't need to have the SL version. Good thing I didn't. There's only a 10gm difference between the too short chain and the new X10. Not going to worry about that. It shifts just fine and there's less friction now. My Campagnolo 10 speed bike is ready for those recovery rides this season!

Old chain shattered
It’s on. I put on out of the package. I couldn’t check length because previous chain shattered in many pieces on a ride last week. On the stand it is shifting remarkably better which is a great sign.

After trying different brands, I only buy KMC
I have settled on using KMC chains exclusively. While 10-cog chains have thinner side plates than older styles, this brand is quite durable. I got 3600 miles on the chain this one replaced. These chains shift smoothly throughout their life span. Indexed 10-cog clusters are finicky. The worn-out KMC still reliably settled into each gear as I grunted up hills. The new one, of course, is equally reliable. The master link makes removal easy. The trick is to flex the chain 90° at both ends of the master link. Squeeze diagonal corners with pliers, it pops right open. Installation is just as easy. The length happens to be perfect for my bicycle. After threading the chain through the derailleur, insert the master link and tug on the chain. It snaps locked. If the chain is too long, you will need a chain breaker tool.
