The Expanse: Season Four [Blu-ray]

The Expanse season 4 tells a different kind of story
If you've already seen the first three seasons of The Expanse, you don't need me to tell you how phenomenal this series is. If you haven't seen this show, though, you should really start with season one and watch this series from the beginning!Either way, in some ways season 4 is a break from what we've seen so far. Much of the action takes place planetside, away from the Rocinante, and that alone gives season 4 a different 'feel' from the rest of the series. When I watched this season the first time, I thought that it was paced a bit slowly, although upon re-watching this series after finishing season 5 I'm astounded by how well season 4 sets up everything which follows. I wouldn't change a thing!I don't want to get into spoilers, so all I'll say about plot here is that each of the main series cast has their own personal story arc and/or faces their own unique struggle during season 4, and that each of these actors does the sort of job we've come to expect from them. Some great new characters were also introduced this season. Burn Gorman was excellent as Adolphus Murtry, chief security officer of the colony ship Edward Israel, and Keon Alexander turns in a wonderfully understated performance as Marco Inaros, an extremist from the political fringe of the O.P.A. Fan favorite David Strathairn also returns from season 3 in the role of Klaes Ashford, continuing to steal every scene he appears in.The bonus content on these discs is worth watching if you're a fan of the series, with after show content for all ten episodes and 4 short 'making of' type videos.Season 4 of The Expanse tells a different kind of story than we've seen in previous seasons, and that's a good thing. While I initially thought that season 4 was a little slow, with a lot of filler material, season 5 builds steadily upon the foundation set here and every element of this story becomes important later on. The Expanse is easily the best science fiction show on TV today, and a fairly good case could be made for this series being the best science fiction show ever, so if you're a fan of the genre I'd recommend checking this show out.

Great series
Only irritation was Naomi characters constant blubbering as she moves through one stupid mistake after another.

a decent 1st season, but......
the 1st season is good, if you can look past the terrible belter language accents which are a bad mix of patois and an imitation of a chinese person speaking engrish. the story is still solid though, until the 2nd season when the infusion of mary sues gets ramped up. they acknowledge earth has higher gravity, but then ignore that it would make even children from earth stronger than the martian marines, because unless you live in 1G every moment of your life, you wont be as strong as those who are from earth. the female characters never face lasting consequences, as well as a few of the males. you can see where they started, but then the woke cult began spreading its doctrine and it washes over the series soaking more & more into the script as the seasons progress. i made it to mid 4th season and just couldnt anymore. sadly this was a missed opportunity, and despite their best efforts, the strong male leads remained the most likeable characters all the way through

Four Seasons of Brilliance and Stellar Effects!
Yet another solid season in this brilliantly made series! It’s so disappointing Amazon doesn’t want people to watch it or to make any money off it, having stopped releasing it on Blu-ray and leaving viewers hanging got the last two seasons. Sorry, Amazon, but I’m not subscribing to Prime to watch. I don’t stream. If you won’t provide me with a product I want to spend money on, I’ll spend it on something else and just pirate your show.

no subtitles = no good for deaf / deafened people
3 starrs because the DVD's are produced without subtitles. Seasons 1 - 3 have subtitles. This is almost unheard of in 2023, it's just lazy and inconsiderate cost cutting on behalf of the production company. Deaf / hard of hearing people can't watch this!

Sci Fi like it was suppose to be written
I've read the books and watch the TV series and loved them both. I like the no cheats version of sci fi where gravity and the affects of G forces are realistically employed in space warfare.

My Region Code Solution
I'm in Australia. Like others my Blu Ray (from the US) would not play on my region free player (Laser BD3000). Despite Season 1-3 Blu Ray playing fine. And nowhere on any of these Blu Rays Season 1-4 is there an indication of Region. That should be mandatory on a global store such as Amazon. Anyway, something I wasn't aware of was that whilst the Laser BD3000 will play any DVD automatically, for Blu Rays you actually have to change the Region code in the Settings menu. Pretty simple once you realise this. Like...duh..... Once I did that Season 4 played a treat. So to be clear. Though my DVD/Blu Ray player is Region Free it still has a setting in the Settings Menu to change the Region code - which you have to do for Blu Rays but not for DVDs. It will play any region DVD automatically regardless of the Region code setting in the menu. For people with other "region free" DVD/Blu Ray players it may be worthwhile checking if you have a similar option. Or one of those obscure remote control button sequences to change region. Google is your friend.

No subtitles on DVD and Bluray doesn't play on Oz devices
I love this series and waited a long time for season 4 to be released on DVD. I had previously bought S4 on Bluray only to find it was only compatible with the USA and had to return it to Amazon Australia. I assumed, as many people did, that products sold on Amazon AU would be compatible with Australian devices!! As the DVD is not available in Australia I asked my cousin in the UK to get it for me (I have a multi-region DVD player). I was so excited when it arrived and then utterly disappointed. I am partially deaf and seasons 1-3 had subtitles. However, since Amazon took over production of this series they apparently do not feel the need to provide subtitles and, to make matters worse, the sound track is not very clear. The production values remain high and luckily I have the entire book series so at least I knew what was going on!!

No subtitles!
This is one of those rare and annoying cases where subtitles were not included on the dvd. Why???
