Arguably the most underrated series I’ve read
This series may be short and set in an alternate universe to where the outcome doesn’t really matter, but wow it’s still a super fun and casual read with some uniquely fun art Too! Took a gamble on this and it definitely payed off, an absolute must for any X-men fan!

What If the Heroes Never Won the Day in House of M and Magnus Still Ruled the World?
Smarmy Quicksilver from House of M returns. Set in the world where the House of Magnus rules the Earth that Scarlet Witch temporarily created during the House of M event, this Secret Wars tie in imagines a what if universe where the heroes never rebelled against Magnus and where Scarlet Witch never set things back to the way they belonged or uttered the infamous "no more mutants" proclamation. In this world, Magnus and his forces are established in their power and cracking down on the rebellious humans led by Hawkeye and Luke Cage. When Quicksilver begins to desire his father's throne for himself he aligns with Namor and begins a plot that puts Magnus, Polaris, and the few remaining human rebels on a collision course. While it would have been fun to revisit some of the other what ifs of the House of M universe originally shown (Wolverine and Mystique as lovers, Peter Parker happy family man with Gwen Stacy) the story focuses almost entirely on Magneto's point of view. Some may not enjoy the fact that some of the big players from the original event don't factor into this story (Scarlet Witch has a rather minor role) I actually am glad we got to see more of this world's Magneto. At the outset he actually desires a return to his old "glory" days of costumed adventuring and villainy until he is rendered powerless for much of the book. It is a bit odd that another Secret Wars tie-in to feature Magneto immediately finds a way to jam or limit his powers (another being Red Skull), but overall this was a great read from Hopeless; the collection also includes a reprinting of the first issue from the classic House of M series.

It's damn good to be king.
With Dennis Hopeless' "House of M: Warzones" we revisit the truly wonderful House of M storyline, a 2005 crossover storyline that found Marvel's best and brightest stuck in an alternate reality where Magneto is king. If you haven't read that storyline (you can get all the really important parts collected in the House of M graphic novel), I'd suggest starting there and immediately returning here. Because this is really a gem.As a huge fan of Magneto and his entire extended family, I was super excited by this story. As king, Magneto finds himself tire of a soft life of luxury and peace. Luckily for him, a human uprising and a nefarious plan to usurp him concocted by Quicksilver and Prince Namor will provide all the excitment he could need. It's a fun plot, but it's truly elevated by Hopeless' understanding of the characters. I've read plenty of books centered-around Magneto, Quicksilver, and the rest of the gang, and the underlying issue I have with most is that they take the characters way too seriously. This book knows how to keep it fun and punchy. Also, shout-out for unexpectedly including Wiccan and Speed. And teaming up Namor and Pietro--I would read an entire series about those two.The only thing that I didn't love about this series was the art. Kris Anka's coverart is fresh and visually appealing. The inside is, well, pretty much what you'd expect from a comic book, I guess. It isn't a bad style by any means, and didn't deter from the story, but I was disappointed to see Anka didn't do the interior as well. All in all, definitely worth the money for anyone who loved House of M, enjoys Magneto and his family, or just wants a fun one-shot that's action packed. I'd love to see more stories like this in the future.
