Review: Great upgrade to the old ones - We have seven Arlo cameras around the house. They are six years old and we are gradually replacing them with these. The quality of the video is so much better. The spotlight works great but the zoom when the motion detection comes on is my favorite part the fact that it follows people in our driveway makes me feel safer. We will be buying more as we replace all of our other cameras, one by one.

**Q: What happens when the "free trial" subscription ends?  do i lose features??  if so, what features?  and can i just put a micro sd in and be fine??**
A: DON'T ACTIVATE THE TRIAL or you will lose the ability to record when it ends!
I added an Arlo Ultra camera to my existing setup (3 Pro cameras and Base VMB4500). Everything worked great for 2 or 3 months. It was recording on my hub and I could play all 4 cameras back on my iPad or iPhone using the Arlo App. Then I got curious and activated the "Free Trial" on the Ultra. I Didn't get enough benefits to continue with the subscription, so I let it lapse. That is when my Arlo Ultra stopped recording to my local storage and no matter what I tried, I cannot get it back to the way it worked before initiating the trial. At least it hasn't killed my older cameras. But this is an evil business model.

**Q: Arlo Ultra 2 is dual channel between 2.4G and 5G?**
A: The Arlo Ultra 2 has a dual-band WiFi. It can switch between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi, depending on how far it is from the Arlo SmartHub or base station. This allows for optimized camera performance by balancing connectivity range and bandwidth.

**Q: I'm planning to use this on my mobile van conversion. Could I still see the cameras if I don't have internet?**
A: No (must have internet connection) - in my test as of  11/14/2020 (Arlo iPhone app version 2.21; Camera: firmware: 1.070.50.6_231_6e7e184; hardware: H10; base ultra 2: firmware: 1.16.3.4_744_c289687; hardware: VMB5000r5; ). Without internet connection to base VMB5000 my Arlo App in iPhone cannot see cameras and cannot access local storage (micro SDXC card) via local wifi.

### ⭐ As Other Reviewers Experience, Will Not Record Video, & Is Not Apple HomeKit Secure Video Compatible

I checked Arlo's website to ensure this Arlo Ultra 2 camera is compatible with my previously purhased Arlo VMB4000 Base Station. They say it is. My prior generation Arlo cameras I purchased with it several years ago still record fine, but I want more advanced features. Even after being enrolled in the free trial of Arlo Secure cloud service, removing and reinserting the camera battery, using the reset button on my Base Station, and turning the base station off and on, the camera floodlight comes on when motion triggered, but no recording shows up in the app from Ultra 2 when armed and motion is detected. Other Amazon reviewers are indicating similar results. Recordings still show up for my older Arlo cameras. I was hesitant to buy this camera in the first place, as I tend to agree with popular YouTube consumer tech advocate Louis Rossman in his 29 Nov., 2023 video, "Cloud Connected Cameras are a SCAM". But the color night vision, spotlight, 4K, and battery is a phenomenal combination I could find nowhere else. Arlo says these work with Apple HomeKit. However, unlike some other home security camera manufacturers, Arlo refuses to enable Apple HomeKit Secure Video, which stores home security video in Apple iCloud+ *IF* you pay for (not the free version) iCloud+ storage. Apple stores security camera cloud video for only 10 days, and limits the number of cameras it will store video for based on your storage tier. But there is no extra charge for it on iCloud+, you can view it on just about any internet connected Apple device with a video screen (including Apple TV), and it does not count against your storage limit. 50GB plan = 1 camera video storage. 200GB = 5 cameras. 2TB & above = unlimited number of cameras. Arlo claims they do not enable Apple HomeKit Secure Video for privacy. But Apple encrypts this video, so Arlo's claim seems invalid, and seems merely to entice you to pay Arlo every month or year for their video cloud storage. Also, I have to respond to ad popups to subscribe or not to their paid video camera storage when arming my older Arlo cameras on their app. Too often, even though I've clicked NO dozens and dozens of times. When I filled out a form on their website a few minutes ago listing these concerns, then pressed send or similarly titled radio button, I got an error message instead. Sounds about right. I plan on upgrading to some other brand that enables Apple HomeKit Secure Video. Perhaps I will wait until newer, more advanced models come out.
