Great first RC car
Our 2 year old son LOVES vehicles, especially fire trucks, so we thought this was perfect for him. The very simple controls make it easy for him to use without getting frustrated. He loves this toy, and really likes to make it chase the dog around. Fortunately, the toy is very durable and is well suited for this type of play. It doesn't work well on carpet, but our house is mostly hardwood and tile, so it works great in most areas of the house (although it does not play nice with thresholds.) All in all, we are all very pleased with this purchase.

2 year old loved it
I purchased this a gift for my nephew who is almost 2. He could control the remote easily and had a blast driving it around. One of the buttons makes it go forward and the other button makes it turn. It only turns one way so if you hold down the turn button it will spin in a circle. This might be annoying for older kids who are better at driving remote cars but for a 2 year old it was great. The wheels are a hard plastic but the rest of the truck is a softer plastic, like a firm rubber ducky feeling. It helps for little hands to pick it up since they can squish the ladder part and get a good grip. Also the soft plastic is less likely to break if dropped or stepped on.

Great except for one design flaw.
The power wire for the motor runs over the drive shaft. This gets stuck in the shaft and severs the power. I'm fairly sure this is the reason for all those complaints of the toy suddenly stopping working. This is VERY easy to fix with a soldering iron and a bit of solder, probably a new wire, preferably a bit stiffer so it will stay away from drive shaft. It will be obvious which wire it is once you open it with a skinny Philips screwdriver (take top off and open inner mechanical casing too). It's the one that runs right over the metal drive shaft and is cut.Otherwise it's a great toy. Crappy range (like 5 feet), loud, slow. But good for my toddler.

Lots of RC fun for a 3 year old.
I bought this for my 3 year old grand nephew and it was an instant hit! The controls were easy for him to learn. He loves the firetruck since his grandpa is a fireman. The sound is not too annoying. It rolls smoothly on concrete, hardwood and tile flooring. It was not tested on carpet so not sure how it works there. The batteries seem to have lasted an appropriate time. The soft flexible shell is the best feature for this toy. The soft plastic makes it so that when it bumps into things it leaves no marks on them and it doesn't bust as hard plastic might.

FANTASTIC TOY - can't believe it was so low priced!
We got this for our 18mo old son for Christmas! He absolutely loves it, and was able to work the remote w/ just a few demonstrations. It's truly that easy! Our 3yo son also loves it, and is playing w/ it at every opportunity.I'm impressed by it's turning radius. The tires will opposite directions when you want to turn it around, so it can do a 360 on the spot. I also really like the cushiness of it. It's an indoor only car for us, and I'm not concerned about it hitting walls & knicking the paint. We had $15 for this, and it's more than worth every penny!

Strange
The one I got doesn't have some of the issues others have had, yet has its own issues.Mine DOESN'T make any kind of fire engine noises, whether or not we'd like that. I don't see any speakers or buttons or lights or anything that looks related to sounds, so the fact that other people's cars make noises is strange to me. Also, the range on ours is pretty good. I'd say the remote can control the car from 10 - 15 feet away, which is plenty indoors. We have wooden floors, no carpet, and the engine has great traction and moves well on the floor. But we have our own problems. For one, the turning mechanism started out working great - the car would basically spin in place (by the mechanic of one of its wheels turning forward while the opposite one turned backward) - but has slowly deteriorated over a few weeks. Now it basically makes the car move forward and slightly to one side, and pretty slowly. The "move forward" button still works great though. The other problem is that the engine is just slightly possessed. If you leave it on, every few minutes randomly it lurches forward an inch and makes the normal "grinding sound" when it does (the same sound it makes when you're controlling it, which is normally fine but now seems loud because you're not expecting it), as though somebody had tapped the move forward button somewhere. No matter how many times this happens it remains startling to the adults in the room, and I've gotten in the habit of switching the engine to "off" when it's not in use. But that's not a great solution because my son expects it to work when he uses the remote, and sometimes I'm not there to point out that it's been turned off.
