When Flakey is Good!
For several years I have made my pies with only butter in the crust because I couldn't find suitable lard ans the quality of the pies suffered. So, finding this lard gave me hope and the results made that hope Reality. This product worked perfectly and after I finish this review I am going to order more.

Item does not list all the ingredient that are in product. ALSO packaging looks old and mishandled
As of 3/20/2018 Picture in description states: "Pure Non Hydrogenated Lard " Nowhere does it indicate there are any other additives. After receiving the package, clearly BHA, BHT, Citric Acid are on the packaging list. I purchased this product specifically because I thought it didn't have any preservatives. Also, packaging is scuffed and does not look new. Upon receiving it, the date was difficult to see, and I previously thought it was outdated. Upon looking at it more closely, I believe I am wrong, and the date actually is 2018. I was so surprised by the looks of the package, I was concerned about using the product. As i went to the "review-your-purchase" page to leave these comments, there is a picture of the item showing the bottom of the package with a list of the full ingredients including the preservatives. This product picture should be on the product page so consumers can make an informed purchase....

Great lard for British meat pies
You need lard for an authentic hot water crust. This stuff is pure and odorless. The real thing.

Ingredients misleading
Gowing up, my mother and grandmothers used lard when making pie crusts and biscuits. Shortening is fine but lard makes everything flaky. Tenderflake does not disappoint in this regard. However, I choose not to use products that have BHT. I was pleased to see the ingredients listed on the Amazon offer said pure lard nothing else. When I received the product, I was very disappointed to read that BHT is in the Tenderflake lard. Because of this< I will not purchase again.

Cooking with Lard
I was a little leery to try but did only because when my Grandma made her cutout cookies for Christmas we all loved the taste. We figured she used lard.
