Design/Exterior Awesome, BUT...
Using this to make up a welder extension cord. Naturally wanted something heavy duty. Was excited by the apparent quality of the exterior. Seemed solid, nice feel, etc. However, once opened to wire up, I was less excited. While no doubt this could pass some limited test for 50 amps, the actual wiring components seemed too light duty for me. Very thin and an attempt to increase rigidity by using stamped bends into the tines. The tines are EASILY bent, in fact the ground tine on mine was bent out so far I doubt the would even be much contact. I could bend it back into place, but no thanks for long term re-plugging heavy duty use. Compared to my Hubble plug on the other end, this thing is built like a toy. Some reviews mentioned the possibility of using heavier gauge wiring. No real chance of that. Good luck with anything heavier than 10 or 12,

Fire hazard
Be very careful when selecting a Surface Mount Receptacle. The receptacle appeared to be fine after the initial installation however we began to smell a hint of plastic burning after a while. We had difficulty locating where the smell was coming from. Ultimately we discovered this. This ruined a welder end male plug to an extension cord but fortunately, there wasn't a fire that could have been catastrophic.

Good Enough
This outlet works just fine. It's not really heavy-duty, but the plastic seems good quality. Might be a bit brittle in really cold temperatures, I won't swing it around and whack it on the pavement just to find out. The metal part is thick enough to feel sturdy but there is nothing to keep it from bending out at the top if you were to yank on the cord real hard. The screw terminals work best for solid wire. I used stranded wire, so I crimped ferrules made from short pieces of copper tubing on the wire before inserting. The knockouts require a 3/4 strain relief or 1 inch if you knock out the big ring. All in all it is a nice package for making extension or adapter cords for your welder. Would I put 50 amps through this for years? Probably not. But for weekend use on a 30 amp circuit it will last me for a long time.

Questionable design
The path for the ground wire runs where the screw to join the two halves of the plug goes. There is no room for the 8 gage wire I tried to use let alone the recommended 6 gage. The only available (recommended and non-intuitive) route requires a bend that is tighter than recommended and the internal tabs appear to be under sized. For a short term connection (never more than 30 minutes) I tolerated it.

Nice plug, but falls short on the obvious
Nice plug, but the bottom wire clamp is way too big. This is a 3 wire plug and the hole is gigantic. That means if you pull on the cord, you are pulling on the wire connections inside. The photo is with the clamp and screws fully compressed. Not even close.

Works just like you think it should. Thumbs up!
I ordered this to make my own extension cord for my plasma cutter. I have a 50-amp outlet, and it's hard to find a cord made of #6 wire that is genuinely made for 50 amps, so I made my own. I went with 40 feet because that fit my needs. This end was exactly what I needed for the plasma cutter / welder side.

gREAT PLUG.
This is a very well built heavy duty plug. I have 2 of these one on my 220v compressor and one on my powder coat oven both have worked very well. I highly recommend
