It could be better.
I really like this device. Out of all the units offered available on Amazon, I chose this one because of the good reviews and the features offered. I was mistaken in thinking that this would play MP3s from a USB drive, but it will not. That's was my fault. Using an SD card has worked fine so far. I bought this for my wife's car so I'm not using it everyday, but I have noticed some things that are not to my liking. When you use the SD card player function, and you shut your car off, which in turn shuts off the device, it will restart the current song from the beginning when you return. We listen to old radio shows that have been converted to MP3. Each show is around 30 minutes long so having to use the seek button to get back to where you were is a problem is you were about half way through an episode. There is a bookmark button on the remote which will save the place and pick up there next time, but you have to remember to do so. Speaking of the remote it is more than a convenience. It's a necessity. A lot of the functions are only available on the remote. The quality of the screen display is not very good. You can see it to read it, but its a very cheap display. That was really disappointing to me because I did not intend to cheapen the interior of my wife's car. The microphone apparently isn't very good either. My wife says people cannot here her when she makes hands free calls, and she just does not use that feature. Although that was half of the reason I picked this unit and paid this price. Her charge ports are at the very bottom of her center console, and the Soundfly's microphone is on the bottom of it, so that may have something to do with it. I haven't really worked with that part at all. When ever you switch between modes, or turn the car on, the unit makes an announcement with a very unimpressive Japanese robotic voice, which you barely understand sometimes. Don't know if there is way to turn that off or not. With all that said, the sound quality is EXCELLENT. The Soundfly produces "CD quality" sound. It is very crisp and dynamic. The instructions say to find a station that is all static. I could not find one that 100% static, but I found one that was close and there is no interference. It even shows the name of the song on the radio's display. My wife’s car is a 2004 Pacifica with the premium audio system, but has now way of playing MP3s. Whether it be on USB or disc, the current stereo in the car does not support the format. I weighed the options of replacing the current unit, but I could not find a unit or installation kit that would naturally mesh with the current DVD player, and amplifiers. I decided to use an FM transmitter to continue to utilize the current stereo head unit. I didn't look any further than Amazon because they had a pretty good selection to choose from. My wife loves the device, but I feel let down. I thought that given the features listed for this device it would be worth the extra money I spent over the competitors. And if I can figure out the hands free calling part of it, it will come close to being worth it. But with the shortcomings noticed so far. I would suggest purchasing one of the cheaper units.

The *PERFECT* FM Transmitter
I bought this for my best friend's birthday last year and she can't stop talking about it. She has a 2008 Porsche which was on the unfortunate cusp of vehicles starting to be equipped with a standard built-in AUX port (and way before bluetooth streaming). For years, she had previously been using a cheap iPod FM transmitter that plugged into the cigarette lighter, which always sounded stat-icky and reproduced at a much lower volume... nothing but trouble. I used to call the distortion "galactic space farts". Low and behold, I discovered the Satechi Soundfly and let me say this thing is by far PERFECT. The sound quality, volume and functionality is exceptional! It sounds so good, you would mistake the vehicle having a hard wired AUX input on the stereo. I read many reviews and watched YouTube videos prior to my decision, and the reviews are all on-point. The best part about this device is that the Soundfly transmits the music ID tags from the source device and transmits it via RDS on the car stereo display. How amazing is that?! Impressive. Definitely worth the money. The list goes on with features... The Soundfly is flexible with audio in and out hook ups. In addition to connecting a device via bluetooth, there's also a 3.5mm AUX input jack (and AUX output jack) as well as an SD card slot. You can change the color of the backlight display to match the lighting of your vehicle's dashboard. You can control your bluetooth device via the jog dial and buttons on the Soundfly. This device also functions as a speakerphone for your vehicle (yes, it has an on-board microphone with noise canceling). What didn't they think of? Surprisingly, it doesn't look like an eyesore and the fit and finish is great. If you are looking for the perfect FM transmitter for your bluetooth device, then this is it.

View vs. BT Ultimate
First off this unit is really good and you'll be happy with it if you try no other device. Also if you have a cigarette socket that is recessed or far from you while driving this will work well. With that said here is my comparrison between this unit and the Satechi BT Ultimate (BT-U).I bought both this device and the BT-Ultimate by Satechi. I had both for about a week and ended up sending the View back and ordered a second BT-Ultimate.Features I liked about each:Satechi BT-Ultimate (BT-U)1. Small, solid form factor that fits well in my 2004 Chevy Silverado. Stays put and easy to use the buttons on the device.2. Better sound than the View. Has a Audio boost setting that sounds better and less flat.3. Seems to have slightly better FM reception and less static than the view.4. Screen is less obtrusive than the View, though it doesn't display much besides either the FM frequency or a countdown of time left in the current song.5. Displays song info over the radio display for the SD card playback but didn't display song info on my radio when playing from my phone.Satechi View:1. Displays song info on screen.2. Has a built-in mic.3. Displays song info on my car stereo display from either the SD or phone.4. Jog wheel works is nice for menu options and changing the song.Things I didn't like about each.BT-U;1. Mic is seperate, wired unit. Should be integrated.2. Display doesn't show much info.3. Should have an option to dim or turn off the display after 5 seconds.View:1. Flexible gooseneck is pretty long (8" or so) and was too long for my close plug in my truck. Plus driving on bumpy roads makes this move around too much.2. Can't dim or turn off the display so distracting at night. Also, the polarized lens conflicts with my polarized sunglasses making the screen hard or impossilbe to read when wearing polarized sunglasses.3. When playing via SD card, there is no option to shuffle songs per folder. If you choose shuffle for playback it shuffles every song on the card making the folder structures moot to some degree.4. FM reception and sound quality seemed not quite as good as the BT-U but still very good.Other than that I liked both of these units for the most part. I now have 2 of the BT-Ultimates and have emailed Satechi with suggestions how to improve both devices so hopefuly these will only get better.Oh and for those that don’t understand the need for a remote try hitting buttons on a device or radio while driving on a bumpy road. I love a remote for my stereo for that reason, plus handy for your passenger if the device is too far on your side of the vehicle.
