Prevents cats from scratching furniture!
Does the job and easy to apply. You can see the tape on the fabric but overall the tape looks better than scratched furniture corners. Small thin strips but works well for different areas of application on the couch in different orientations. Easy to remove, does not leave residue.

Trust me...I have 5 cats!
******UPDATE BELOW SITUATION: We are the caregivers of five indoor cats. We have a variety of scratch toys, but none seem to be as inviting or satisfying as our furniture. We formerly had leather furniture, which they didn’t bother. The new upholstered stuff arrived and they could not resist. Our previous little angels became little scissor-handed devils overnight! We tried spraying them with water, making loud noises, and covering areas with aluminum foil -- all had little success. At one point we tossed sheets over everything -- they simply would get underneath them to scratch! We love our cats. Love them! (Amelia, Norman, Pippa, Mamie, and Harper). We resigned ourselves to having threadbare armed furniture. I purchased — yes purchased -- Pioneer Pet Sticky Paws on a whim, with very little expectations. To my amazement, it works! INSTALLATION: In essence, it’s simply double-sided tape. One side sticks to your furniture, the other your cat will touch. The label cautions to try a small test area first. My furniture is fabric – not microfiber or leather — I secured the tape without any difficulty. I would suggest vacuuming the furniture prior since cat fur will prevent the tape from adhering well. REACTION: Within minutes of installing, I watched Mamie walk up to “her” arm chair and attempt to do her usual stretch-and-scratch. She touched the tape and immediately pulled her paws away. She sat there for a moment looking completely perplexed. She looked at me, looked at the chair again, and then walked away. It was freaking awesome! SPECIFICATIONS: The tape is 2.5 inches wide and comes on a roll. It has a similar look and width as packing tape, but much stickier. It comes off the roll like double-sided craft tape: the bottom side sticks to your item and the top side is covered with a waxy like paper that you pull off, once installed. The waxy paper is perforated down the center. This feature was well-thought out: it enables you to secure the edges a bit more as you’re pulling it off. It the wax was one whole piece, you may inadvertently pull the tape off your sofa as you’re pulling the wax paper off. A little extra securing may be needed around corners and curves. I have found it easier to use that waxy paper, instead of my fingers, to secure areas that didn’t stick initially. Over time the tape will lose its stickiness as cat fur, dust, and other things are attracted to it. If that is an issue, just reapply more tape. INTENTION: The intention of this tape is to prevent your cats from scratching. It did precisely that. I do see that they also claim it may help “control inappropriate elimination.” I am not certain of that claim. I have a cat whose middle name should be “inappropriate elimination” and this tape would do diddly squat to prevent her from peeing outside her box. I am assuming that cats who pee on furniture would be discouraged to do so if they encountered this tape. Possibly. My problem child doesn’t pee on furniture, thankfully. She pees outside her little box. But, that’s a whole other story... DIRECTIONS: The label reads: "May damage certain surfaces (including, without limitation, wood finishes, painted surfaces, leather, vinyl, microfiber, and wallpaper) so ALWAYS TEST a small piece of Sticky Paws on an inconspicuous area before applying." I would most definitely not use this on most hard surfaces. It would leave a sticky residual mess. I very much appreciate this product. ****** UPDATE: I have had the tape installed for three months and it continues to reduce the amount of furniture scratching. My cats, being superior in intelligence, do have a tendancy to take advantage of a loose edge and use it as an opportunity to try and pull off the tape. (I don't fault the tape for their behavior.) I have had to re-apply in some areas as a result. I am buying more tape. Be certain that enought scratching posts, pads, etc. are available for your cat(s), as an alternative.

Good quality deterrent, just not for my cat
I bought this to try to get my cat to stop chewing, but unfortunately he chews right through it, so it didn’t solve my specific problem. That said, it is a good product overall. The tape is sticky on both sides and does what it’s designed to do, yet it’s still easy to remove without leaving residue behind. For that reason, it still earns a high rating from me. I can absolutely see this working well for other cats, it just wasn’t a match for mine.

Turned a small problem into a big one
I wish I had paid more attention to the previous one star reviews. I have an incredible mess now, trying to remove the tape. It was only on for a week, so that's not the problem. As others have said, there's no way to remove it without a struggle. If it wasn't in segments, it would be much easier, but when I finally get it up enough to be able to grab it and pull, it comes to the end of the segment and it's the same thing all over again. And the segment I just almost removed isn't really up because it shreds, gets into skinny strips, and you have to remove them separately. IT'S not taking the finish off the wood, I AM as I pick at an end trying to get up enough to pull. I'll be pulling this tape up for the next month, and as time goes by, they say it gets harder to get up. UPDATE I'm still trying to get the tape up, and using a hairdryer as S. Nieto suggested has helped a bit. I still have a way to go, but the sticky residue that's left is now a major problem, trying to eliminate it and not destroy the hutch. I found a suggestion in the internet to generously put vegetable oil on the residue, leave it for 30 minutes, than using corn meal (or salt or sugar) rub it with your fingers (in circles) to remove the residue. I tried it on the part where I already got the tape up and I think it helps. Well, it certainly worked better than anything else I tried, but it'll be a long process. [...]

Works fine... Assuming you don't have a strange cat like mine who enjoys licking/eating plastic.
I had to remove (and throw away) every single one of these strips from my furniture, in fear of my newly rescued cat choking on them, or getting them lodged in his digestive tract. For some reason, he is attracted to them -- and not in a good way. (I also have to keep plastic wrap away from him because he will chew on that too.) I have heard some cats like the chemical smell in plastic products... though I cannot say for sure why. Some people surmise it's due to a dental problem, or vitamin deficiency, or simple boredom. I have multiple cats who eat the same (high-quality) food, yet Spot is the only one who showed any interest in licking/eating these. So at least in my case, I am sure a nutrition deficiency was not the issue. (I am vegan, but my cats are not.) I have had his teeth checked out as well. Before Spotty came into my life, "Sticky Paws" worked pretty well with my other cats.... Though the strips did not exactly look stylish. I would remove them temporarily on the rare occasion that I had guests over (and since my cats hide from strangers, that worked fine.) That said, the strips occasionally need to be replaced anyway because if a person or a pet accidentally rubs up against them, lint/fur (etc) will stick to them, making them completely ineffective (because they are no longer sticky). I find these to be worth a try if you are attempting to avoid declawing (which is an incredibly inhumane procedure in my humble opinion). However, I recommend doing your trial run on a day you will be home and can keep an eye on your fur kids, to ensure they don't have the same chemical-loving weird quirk my Spotty does. If he/she shows no interest within the first 24 hours, I suspect using them will be fine long-term. If these don't work for you and your kitties for any reason, I suggest checking out "Soft Claws" nail caps (which are also sold here on Amazon). They are a pain to apply if your cat does not cooperate, but work fabulously once they're on -- and look super cute as an added bonus! ;-)

Work very well and as advertised!
These work great for furniture. I purchased a new living room suite which, of course, was most attractive to my cats as new sharpening stations. After a couple of weeks of "fabric shaving" and spraying the furniture with all kinds of deterrents I realized I needed to take the situation to a new level. I have used these in the past on other furniture, and they do not disappoint. The cats immediately stopped scratching where the strips were placed because they definitely do not like having their paws on sticky things. I then realized I had missed a few places, which I quickly remedied. The only down point about these strips is that if they are on the furniture for a long period of time they are difficult or nearly impossible to remove, and will live a sticky residue. They are also kind of a pain to apply, and I ended up wasting a few that stuck themselves together during the application. I would suggest removing and re-applying every 4-6 months or so a residual build-up of the "glue". However, I found that after removing strips after a few months from one of the areas they are leaving it alone now. I am hoping that I can eventually remove all the strips. In the meantime, I purchased (to go along with 3 other different types of scratching posts) a miracle post from Petsmart. My cats have gone nuts over it. Best $65.00 I have ever spent.

Works great and fast
Works great. Easy to apply. Put it wherever your cat is scratching and provide some scratching pads or posts as an alternative. My couch and chair are resting easier these days.

Doesn't Stick - Why Did They Change the Formula??
I have used this product over the years with great results, usually when I got a new kitten that needed some training. It worked wonders to deter scratching, plus it never left a sticky residue on the couch fabric. I thought it was the best stuff ever to save my furniture from the shredding. HOWEVER, I recently bought 3 new rolls and discovered that it's basically useless. I don't know if they've changed the formula of the adhesive, or what they've done differently, but it is extremely difficult to get it to stick to furniture fabric, if it even sticks at all! If I press (and press, and press...) hard enough, it may stick a little, but my kitten just rips it off with one touch, and with glee. In fact, sometimes it falls off on it's own! Before someone comments that it must be the fabric, that is not possible! How do I know? Because I had some tape left over from a roll I purchased a couple of years ago, applied it on several places on my furniture, and it is still stuck TIGHT to the couch! It's only the new rolls that have almost ZERO sticking power. Basically, it is useless, and it is unfortunate that the manufacturer changed the adhesive because I'll never buy this product again unless they go back to the old formula. And at $13 per roll, well, that $$$ just went into the trash can. Just one more thing, one of my co-workers had the same experience and also wondered if they had changed the adhesive formula.

Excellent product - definite deterrent
This is on each corner of my fabric lounge and it's barely visible unless you're looking very closely. My two cats don't even attempt to scratch the corners of my lounge anymore.

It works!
I used that to avoid my cats scratching the sofa (they were used to do it) and after this stopped them to do it! Now I'm using it almost everywhere they are trying to scratch
