This product just does not make it, in my opinion. My wife got this as a surprise for me and it arrived in a plain white box that had been somewhat crushed and torn. No documentation or specs were to be found but I stuck it to the fridge, awaiting my first use.The general workmanship and functionality of this thermometer are flawed. The first thing to happen when I pulled it off of the fridge was that the magnet stayed on the appliance while the thermometer was in my hand. The on/off switch is reversed: off is on, on is off. There is no way to permanently set the device to F° or C°. It always comes on in centigrade and EVERY change you make to this device causes an accompanying beep. Sound at every button push seems unnecessary and is generally annoying. The collapsible stand on the back functions perfectly, collapsing at the slightest touch. And finally... water at my elevation boils at 211.4, not 204 as shown in my photo.I can generally find one redeeming quality in most things I buy, but there is no silver lining in this one. There is a reason you find something for sale listed as a $59.99 value marked down to $13.99 (think: as seen on tv). You generally get what you pay for and, even at such a drastic "savings", it is no deal if a product does not perform even its most basic function. This thermometer does not make the grade.

With just a few buttons, I like the ease of use, the metal face and the metal braided cable. I don't like that you can't turn it off unless you remove the battery. I don't use it everyday and it is a waste of the battery to not be able to shut it off. Since I have to keep it on, if the it had a little hook to attach the cable, with the rear magnets it does have, I could leave the sensor cable connected, stick it to my fridge and have a air temp thermometer, but alas no hook. If you remove the sensor cable, of course you get no temp reading. Then to have it on all the time is even more of a waste of battery life. Also, the stand folds out from the back, but it isn't sturdy and collapses easily. No big deal as whether flat or upright, the device is easy to read. It works great! I made meat that was perfectly cooked at the temp I set. I am happy with it, but if they added the features I suggested, then I would love it!

Simple, works great, I’ve been using it regularly for the last three months with no issues.With the previous meat thermometer that I owned it was necessary to select the type of meat and it selected the temperature. The temperature was always higher than I wanted so I either had to adjust it (not a straight foreword task) or keep an eye on the temperature read-out. There may be other “select the meat” thermometers that work better, but I decided to keep it simple this time.I’ve had no problem with accuracy – the meat is as the temperature indicates it should be. I did the boiling water test and 212° read 210° which is close enough for me.The fact that is can be used as a timer is handy also. The lack of a shut off switch is not a problem. The unit (at least when left in timer mode) has almost no drain on the battery. The last temperature set is held, so there usually is no need to toggle it up or down by much.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Put the probe into the meat and it registers the temperature at the tip of the probe. Like any instant read thermometer, you need to be careful putting it in thin meats or putting it next to bones as you may get an inaccurate read. Used properly, it gives a great read and I like it because you can leave the thermometer in the meat while it is cooking. For example, I put the thermometer into the center of a pork tenderloin and set it to my desired final temperature. I put it on the grill and left the thermometer in. (You could do the same with your oven) When the center of the meat hit that temp, the beeper goes off and i know the tenderloin is exactly at the temperature I want it - no cutting into the meat to make sure it's cooked all the way through. I gave it 4 stars because this item does NOT have an on/off switch and the display will stay on as long as the battery is in. While that would be a convenient feature, it's not a deal breaker by any stretch as it uses about as much energy as any other small digital item that has a constant display, so I'm not too worried about it. No need to take the battery in and out like one reviewer suggested. Great purchase! You won't be disappointed.

I purchased this because it was not preprogrammed with temperatures for Beef, Chicken, etc., as another one that I recently purchased. I want to be able to set my own temperature. This model was inexpensive so I thought I would give it a try. It appears to measure the temperature very accurately. The probe appears to be better made than the one on the more expensive model I recently purchased. I did get a big laugh because the on / off indicator is labeled incorrectly. Turn to off and you turn it on.Update 11/14/2016 - This little gem quit working after 3 uses...guess not so nice for the price.

simple, easy, and effective thermometer. does not have the "recommended" cook range for different foods, which are always wrong for my tastes, so this is the reason I went for a simple unit.I would recommend if you want a basic thermometer.

This digital grill thermometer is as described and functions very efficiently. I have used it while cooking on the outside BBQ grill as well as when baking in the inside range oven. I am amazed about how much better my meals have turned out after using it.

Worked like a charm the first time. Then 2nd time the alarm just started going off and the temp won't take. Contacting manufacturer today, so I'll update my review to see how good the service is.
