Supremely excellent book that teaches the reader how to play the scales, arpeggios and cadences. It demonstrates the major key, relative minor key and key signatures and which specific keys are sharp or flat for each major key. This book is a marvel because it spells out much in a chart format, then the Circle of 5ths and many other illustrations and notature. ..as famed Robert Schumann, composer, said: "You must diligently practice all scales". The spiral book covers: tetra chords, building Major scales, Triads, the second inversion of triads, the primary triads in major keys, the V7 chord, scale degrees, arpeggios, building minor chords, then, more on the 3rds, 5ths and more on triads. the primary triads in minor keys the diminished 7th chord and offers a guide to fingering. It progresses IN PART 2 to Major scales in sharp keys followed by the same for flat keys in PART3. Then,.. Part 4 covers the minor scales in sharp keys. Part 5 covers the minor scales in flat keys. Part 6 covers the Chromatic Scales and followed by "Enrichment options" in PART 7.... that is the menu. However, it must be noted the illustrations are clear and concise and come in, easy to understand formats and supplemented by graphs and fingering illustrations on the piano to make easy the understanding each student needs. I simply cannot overstate the importance of this book and bow to the compliments of world famed composers like Schumann, Czerny, Rubinstein, Rachmaninoff, Paderewski and Van Cliburn .. all of whom stressed the utter importance of learning each aspect of this book. I like this book because of the bright white paper, dark printing and larger size of the text. My version of the book is bound with a thick, durable plastic coil. Also, there's information about circle of fifths, sharps and flats, tetrachords, intervals, and everything else promised in the description. The only thing I don't like is that some of the pages are off-center, and the print disappears into the binding ring. Not enough of a problem to return, however. Overall, quite satisfied. Works well for a renewed beginner with less-than-perfect vision. It's easier for children to read, too. Would purchase for others.

I've not gotten far into this book, but what I've covered has helped me. I'm a guitar player who decided to learn piano. My goal with this book is to learn some basic chords and chord progressions, as well as digging into the scales that go with them. This book has provided what I need. It provides some good fundamentals in connection with scales, chords, arpeggios and cadences. The chord progressions are simple, as well as the chords. You're primarily covering triads. Yet, challenging enough to keep me busy for quite a while. All the scales and arpeggios are covered in detail, along with suggested practice exercises. I'm really enjoying it so far, and see no reason that I won't feel this way about the rest of the book. The beginning of the book provides a nice explanation of basic theory. Along with basic theory, inverted chords are also covered in the early stages. Those chords are included with root position chords in the cadences. That's the pattern all the way through the book. All in all this book has been good for me, a startup pianist. And it's a no brainer for the cost. Add it to your library. Let me though sound a warning: If you purchase the Kindle copy and want to print it off, you'll have to convert your kindle format to a print friendly format. If you don't like that idea get the paper copy. But if you're a beginner like me, you'd do well to add this book to your library.

I think this is probably a really good book for what it is. It explains scales, chords and arpeggios. I was just looking for something that less of a piano playing book and more of a writing music book for writing midi parts. It has some very useful information inside the cover on the circle of fifths and how to tell what key you are in. The problem is, I already have books that do this. There are good exercises for playing very basic arpeggios. And there are fundamentals of scales and chords. But the arpeggios are very basic - just going up and down the scale, nothing interesting if you are looking for ideas.

Great curriculum for learning or relearning piano! It's also perfect for teaching others!

I read the reviews and found them to be very accurate. The book has some information in the front section that was very helpful. I've read music and was self learned on the piano starting at age 7. Played flute in band and Orchestra. And had music theory classes in high school and college, and yet there were things that I discovered for the first time by purchasing this book. Looking forward to learning more as I work my way through this book.

*Self learners and intimidated beginners, This book is for you! I can't bear to take away a star for the damaged spine, that is how wonderful this book is. - I'm your average child piano lessons quitter, now regretfully nostalgic and determined adult learner💪🏽. I didn't absorb enough theory back then, to actually know the piano. I knew just enough to memorize and play average pop sheet music. Easier standard classicals etc. Unless I use a chord dictionary, I know zero chords except Cmajor, zero scales except Cmajor, nothing about key signatures, let's not even talk about rest counts, note beats, etc. Basically any little foundation I had, has been long forgotten, BUT, it's never too late to learn as long as you're healthy enough and breathing, and this is a phenomenal book to start with. PROS: 1. It's big with a remarkably visually appealing layout to making studying and memorization easier and more welcoming. The voice/tone of the book is warm and not overly formal or stiff like others I've tried. 2. Placed on the inside of the cover page, where it can be easily referenced, is a large sized, very detailed explanation of the Circle of 5ths. I have been trying to understand it's concepts for years with no success, but I took one quick glance over this one, and boom! I finally understood it. This is HUGE for me. 💃🏽 3. Explanation paragraphs are greatly detailed precise and super easy to understand, as you can see in the pictures 4. The diagrams are big and fantastic. With arrows pointing things out to ensure clarity. 5. Things aren't squished together, which, I've found, often make studying musical concepts or reading music itself seem much much harder, and burdensome, than it really is. CONS: the only con may be one of the things that makes this book great - the "oversizeness" of it all. It is a "music book" size book. For adult studiers, this is not your pocket sized travel study companion. This one will tag along in your large(er) tote or a knapsack or good sized man bag. + I finally found a book I'll actually enjoy studying, that will keep my struggles and confusions to a minimum. I believe you'll feel the same. Worth every single penny. I will be using this book until it's ragged. Buy it and enjoy your piano learning journey.

He estado usando los libros de iniciación del mismo autor y me parecen buenos, sin embargo, estos no profundizan en la teoría y no prestan mucha atención al estudio de escalas, las cuales son importantes si es que quieres tomar habilidad en el instrumento. Este libro cubre las deficiencias de los libros antes mencionados. Hace una explicación bastante clara de acordes y de como se arman estos e incluye varios ejercicios de escalas. Definitivamente este tipo de libros son necesarios para desarrollar una buena técnica y creo que tanto el principiante como alguien que ya tiene un conocimiento previo, puede sacarle provecho a este libro.
