Amazon Essentials Women's Surplice Dress (Available in Plus Size)

I dont buy nearly any other clothes these days except for Amazon Essentials, and this dress is no exception. I am wearing a size medium. I have this dress in three colors—navy, green, and now black!! I also have the long version. Girls: DO IT. This is the comfiest dress in the universe, and so flattering (even for a broad-shouldered lady like myself). It is buttery soft & effortless, wonderful for summer days. I feel SO PRETTY—and modest!!! Ladies!!! It hits just above the knees!!! You can bend over in peace! 11/10 recommend. I got this dress in the pinkish color and the blue color & I love both!! I am 5’7 & 248 & I ordered the XXL but it’s so stretchy and the XL would have fit also but I love the way this XXL fits. I did just order another pinkish color in XL because I’m curious how that one will fit so I’ll add pictures of that and the blue one later. The fabric is thin and won’t make you hot. It might show certain flaws like cellulite the tighter the fabric is but I wear shorts underneath to smooth out my butt so that doesn’t happen. It’s so beautiful and soft and stretchy. I added pictures to show just how stretchy it is. You can see it’s also looser on my arms also which I like it being a little big because I hate tight clothes on myself or things that are form fitting. I need to loose weight. My meds are causing rapid weight gain which I hate. I’m going in a cruise soon which is why I got a few of these and I’m happy I did. I highly recommend these. Pockets would make these dresses even better but I still love them so much. They are lightweight and perfect!! They are versatile and can be dressed up or down. Nothing about this dress is uncomfortable. It’s really comfortable in every way. It washed and dried well also. I LOVE all the colors. For under $9 for this dress (at the time I bought it,) is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! Right now I even see some colors for under $7 which is a steal!!! Originally they usually sell on this site for $19.99 so I am one happy camper I got them at such a great price! The dresses are not clingy and they fall right above my knees which is perfect. Depending on the color they might be a tad see through but considering the length of the dress it’s easy to wear shorts underneath. Plus for us plus size girlies that will prevent our thighs from rubbing which is a must. ❤️ 😁 I love these so much!!!

The quality of the dress is good. The fabric is soft and comfortable. The skirt is very full so the drape is heavy and hangs in such a way that on me it looks saggy and too big! The waistband is elastic so I would order one size smaller than needed and because of the elastic it should fit fine. Im going to return and reorder a size smaller.

These have become my favorite night gowns. I like having support up top when I sleep but still want to be comfortable and nothing binding or tight. These are cute, super soft and fit the bill. They do stretch out over time and the fabric gets a little less smooth, maybe? They are also helpful for nursing! Wash up really nicely too!

I am really impressed with this dress! It fits so nicely, and the empire waist is forgiving without creating the illusion of a bump. It drapes nicely, and is a very soft jersey material, it’s super versatile, I took it on vacation and could wear it as a beach/pool coverup,, casual daytime dress, or dress it up for evening with heels and jewelry. I’ve washed it multiple times and it washes and dries very well. Love the sizing too. I am 5’2”, 120 lbs and bought an XS.

I bought this dress b/c surplice tops are often flattering on me, plus it looked nice on the plus-size models. I am 5’1 and 175 lbs currently (muscular AND fat), between a L and XL depending on the fit, with generally an hourglass shape. On me, the fit of this dress was unspeakably awful. The empire waist landed right under my bust and hung straight from there, giving a tent-like appearance that wasn’t proportional to the rest of my body. That alone would have been enough to return it, but the dolman sleeve was also a bad fit, giving a very sloppy appearance. I think a Large would have been a better fit, but I say that just to give insight into the sizing — I think this dress runs a bit large. This dress was just the wrong style for my body, and a smaller size would not have fixed that. While this was the wrong style for me, the dress itself is very nice and a great deal for the price (I paid $12.90 in June 2025). I got the navy animal print, which is lovely and looks more like a tiny floral print than it does animal print. The material is soft and feels great against your skin. A bit thin, yet it doesn’t seem clingy b/c there is a high elastic content (so also won’t wrinkle much or at all). The elastic seems appropriately tensioned for the size — not too loose, not too tight. If you have the right body shape for this dress, I think it’s 5 stars!

This dress is so cute. I just love the colors and the length. It falls just above my knee, which is perfect. It's instantly become one of my favorite things. I washed it in the laundry and dryer and it didn't shrink at all. The fabric is so soft on my skin. And it's extremely comfortable to wear. The material is opaque. And the design is flowy. I highly recommend this product.

A little thin but for the price is a great little summer dress or cover up. I love wearing around the house. It's comfortable yet I look way more put together then I am.
