Much better than earlier BOOM! Studios comics
I followed the 'Firefly' series from BOOM! Studios for a while, but eventually lost interest. There were a few reasons that this series didn't retain my interest. First, it felt like the art was kind of fuzzy and indistinct, sometimes making it hard to tell which character was speaking or exactly how the character was reacting to dialogue or the actions of others. Also, some of characters didn't seem to be written in the same 'voice' that I remembered from the TV series, and some of the obstacles encountered (a world full of giant hostile centipedes?) didn't seem to be consistent with plotlines from the TV episodes, which was a little jarring. Finally, I didn't care much for the new characters introduced in this series-- and yes, I'm looking at you, Boss Moon.I don't think I missed many issues before the release of Blue Sun Rising, Vol 1, but I'm happy to report that all three of these drawbacks have been somewhat mitigated. Characters are more distinct, although facial expressions are still a little difficult to make out. Characters and situations in this book more or less seem consistent with characters and situations from the TV series and the earlier series of comics published by Dark Horse. And even Boss Moon seems less annoying in this collection.I may go back and pick up the issues that I missed. This collection feels like a continuation of 'Firefly,' rather than a reinterpretation of the beloved franchise.

Good alternate story.
Characters portrayed well and developed consistent with consistency of show but they ignore the River mystery and abilities making her just a confused girl. While fun to see the gang in this “what if” universe and dodging the death of Wash in the film I can’t say it’s better just well done. Glad I bought it but may not follow it for as long as I would’ve the show.

Not new
Was supposed to be new, but there were greasy food finger prints on the front and back. GrossThe rating is for the book creators, not the poor delivery from Amazon
