Firstly, if dunk a non rated saltwater reel in saltwater, you deserve to have it locked up on you. Common sense goes a long way, tho obviously rare these days. I’ve used plenty of freshwater gear for saltwater with zero issues. I don’t dunk them. I do rinse off with freshwater, and periodically (4xs a year) take apart and oil my reels. As with anything, take care of it and it’ll take care of you!! **Q: I got the 3000. Would that be allright for my 7 ft med action rod?** A: The 3000, size wise is on par with most 2500 series reels(Shimano)! A 6ft to 7ft Rod would not be an issue for this reel.
