Just tape it to the cabinet wall you are mounting the fan onto. The hole is about 5 inches square. The face/lip of the fan is about 5 3/4 inches square. You also must drill 4 holes for the mounting screws - also made easy using the template. For me, it took 10 minutes to hand-saw through the thin, paneling-like board backing of my entertainment cabinet. 10 minutes to mount the fan with 4 screws. It took 2 minutes to plug it into an unused USB port on my amplifier for fan power. Now, my whole 7 component system stays cool.
