## Description

Designed to expand up to 5 times in volume after dispensing, 3M Fire Barrier Rated Foam FIP 1-Step is a two-part urethane, smoke, sound and firestopping foam. This intumescent foam can be used to fill the annular space created by pipes and cables penetrating through fire-rated construction. It’s an alternative to mineral wool and sealant, bricks, pillows and runny, ineffective foams and is UL listed. Fast Firestopping Foam Efficient and effective, 3M Fire Barrier Rated Foam FIP 1-Step is a two-part urethane, smoke, sound and firestopping foam. This intumescent foam is engineered to expand in the event of a fire. It is firestop tested up to 2 hours in accordance with ASTM E 814 (UL 1479) and CAN/ULC S115. When dispensed, this foam cures quickly, reaching full expansion after approximately 2 minutes and expanding up to 5 times its size. This product foams in place without sagging or running and is designed to fill the void between the through penetrant (pipe, cable, etc.) and the wall, creating a firestop seal and restoring the fire rating of the entire wall. We formulated this foam to be re-enterable and repairable, remaining pliable after installation for the easy installation of new cables/conduit in existing openings. During a fire, this product maintains a tight firestop against smoke and flame and its air leakage is less than 1 CFM/Sq Ft. 3M Fire Barrier Rated Foam FIP 1-Step meets the intent of LEED VOC regulations and is One-Step Firestop Finish firestop installations quickly with our 3M Fire Barrier Rated Foam FIP 1-Step. The foaming action really makes sealing around conduits and pipes a breeze as it fills gaps better than the standard caulk type firestops. When it comes to sealing around a bundle of cables, like data wires, this is hands down the best product I've used. It is more expensive than the caulk type firestops, but the labor savings are quite worth the extra cost.

As for supplier, apparently you should have an accurate accounting of how much of this product you need to use because if you have to reorder this expensive product, they will send your reorder to you without the required mixing nozzle and slathered in grease.

A: You need a special dispenser. A standard caulking gun won't work.

A: No, it needs a special dispensing gun

**Q: Is this heat resistance .want to put in my corvette rocker panels .to fill in the gaps**
A: Yes it has a fire rating which you can find on the tube or on the SDS but I think it is 2 hours.

**Q: What is the flame spread rating and smoke development rating?**
A: Flame spread 2 hours. Class 1 smoke spread. I can tell you from being in the fire protection business. That this is acceptable anywhere in the United States. Per fire marshal and life safety inspectors. Basically anything that meets California fire protection laws meets all US needs.


FIP 1-Step shall be a two-component, ready-to-use, gun-grade, firestopping foam. FIP 1-Step 
shall be tested to the criteria of ASTM E 814/UL 1479 Standard Test Method for Fire Tests of 
Penetration Firestop Systems, ASTM E 84/UL 723 Standard Test Method for Surface Burning 
Characteristics of Building Materials, ASTM E 90 Standard Test Method for Laboratory 
Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions and Elements, and 
ASTM E 413 Classification for Rating Sound Insulation. FIP 1-Step shall meet the requirements 
of the IBC, IRC, IFC, IPC, IMC, NFPA 5000, NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 101 and NBCC.

I've been using this foaming fire barrier in commercial construction sites for over a year. It is a great product. The foaming action really makes sealing around conduits and pipes a breeze as it fills gaps better than the standard caulk type firestops. When it comes to sealing around a bundle of cables, like data wires, this is hands down the best product I've used. It is more expensive than the caulk type firestops, but the labor savings are quite worth the extra cost.

Product arrived quickly. Doesn't go as far as I'd hoped. It took 3 tubes to fill an 8"x8" square hole with a 2" PVC pipe. If you're trying to install it through a 1/2" PEX tube as described by 3M, you'll use almost an entire tube filling the 12" PEX to try to seal in hard to reach spots. As for supplier, apparently you should have an accurate accounting of how much of this product you need to use because if you have to reorder this expensive product, they will send your reorder to you without the required mixing nozzle and slathered in grease.

i ordered 11 tubes of this fireblock product at $70 per tube and the $100 caulk gun to apply the product and only 2 tubes came with the screw on tip that mixes the epoxy as you ap-y it.....needless to say if you have to stop work for a short period of time the epoxy hardens in the tube making it useless
