The thermometer did not work. It would not turn on, no matter how many different batteries I used. I made sure to use batteries that worked in other devices. Sorry.

Would be perfect if fahrenheit could be made the default reading, not celsius
It works fine. You pull out the spike, stick it in fool and you get a reading that's accurate and in real digits. BUT you have to press a button to make it read degrees F instead of degrees C EACH time you open it up and use it. If you use this thing a lot in the kitchen, having to press an extra button each time you use it constantly reminds you that this could be better. I'm too old to start thinking in Celsius.
