This lens fully extended looks like a modern age bazooka. With that being said, I recommend one of these if you are doing photography via tripod. It takes a lot of stress off the eMount body. Now, I wish Sigma would provide these via the maunfacturer with the lens, but this is relatively inexpensive compared to the name brand one. I still honestly think it cost a bit more than it should, but Sigma drove the price up for the 3rd party mfg. Overall, its a nominal price you pay for protection to the camera body, lens, and usability via tripod. I definitely recommend one if you have this 100-400mm lens.
