Pay attention to the nuances
Unlike some other reviewers I found this to provide plenty of suspensful moments. Also, I found a lot of meaning in it related to aging. This woman is disappearing not just because she's becoming senile, but because society is leaving her behind. I think she's just desperate to shed her age and get back to a younger self. The closet world is a metaphor for her wandering mind and the ending speaks to her need to escape her aging body. It's a comment on our society's ageism as well as a personal story with plenty of scares. Great acting, as well.

Slow-burn horror film about the fear of getting old.
I really enjoyed this. I love a good gory horror slash fest but, I also adore this new crop of art-house style cerebral films too. What a great first film for this new director. The cinematography is lovely. The sound design is very well done. Also, it has great performances! It was a truly disturbing film and really played up the sense of dread about the intense fear of growing old. I found it very effective.

A BAD attempt to have a message in a horror/suspense movie
It was boring, boring and boring. Nothing scary about it or even suspenseful. They were trying to have a message about Alzheimer's disease but it just wasn't good to watch. Glad I didn't pay money to go to the movies for this one..Save your $6, nothing happens, no one dies, no ghosts, no monsters, no jump scares, just an old mean lady.

NOT SURE HOW TO RATE THIS MOVIE
It isn't at all scary and not even creepy. The ending is mind-blowing in that NOTHING is explained, and what daughter does to mother and what remains after what daughter does to mother makes NO SENSE whatsoever. Critics seem to love this movie, but the average audience does not. The acting is very good, though the cast is very limited. There was no real back story to explain the events AND the movie was just slow-moving with nothing much going on most of the time. I read one review when the movie was just released and that critic said it was "the best horror film of 2020". LOL - it's not even close. This is one of those "B" movies that I would have started watching but didn't finish. The only reason I did finish it is because I paid to rent it. Just as a recommendation, a movie that just showed up on Prime called I STILL SEE YOU is very unusual and very good.

Mom's A'Peeling
I needed to write something about this movie because of all the rude reviews. This is not a movie for a twelve-year-old or anybody that is just looking for a horror movie it's a bit more complex than that. Also it's got women in it and it's women centered so if you don't like that you won't like this movie.Anyway you could look at this movie strictly as a metaphor for aging and alzheimers and loss but if that's what this movie is about, then they should have left off the peeling mom part, but that's just my opinionthere was plenty of good stuff in the movie I love the actresses but there was a bit of a conflict I think between being metaphorical and including some horror elements that just didn't really fit in. However definitely worth a watch if you are a mature person, most certainly not a lifetime movie as someone suggested in the comments

Poignant, unsettling, and beautifully heartbreaking.
First of all, there are plenty of suspenseful, creepy, unsettling, and downright gross moments in this film. If you have a close relationship with a grandmother, an elder, or even an older mother, this is going to hit some soft spots. If anyone in your life has suffered from dementia or Alzheimer's, the message in this film will be even more poignant for you. The delivery of the message isn't as evident as the delivery was in "Mother!" but this is definitely worth a watch. Anyone who says it's boring simply hasn't the intellectual capacity to appreciate the film's nuances.Worth a second watch to really take in the meaning!

Wth did I watch in the dark.
This movie is really great! It's like watching a movie in the dark with a blindfold around your eyes! I love the story line and everything. It makes no perfect sense. I love the way there was no back story or anything. It reminded a little bit of the Winchester house which I saw a glimpse of hope in the movie and then it got killed by some randomness. I have no idea what I just paid 6.99 for to watch. I dont even understand the genre of this movie. Honestly if anybody wanna explain this movie feel free to contact me. I need not to see any more great movies like this! That was a wonderful way to waste time. I dont know what I was thinking. Do not watch this "great" movie it's too spectacular i suggest you would just not watch it trust me please. Please read all the bad reviews before watching this. I degress. This is the type of movie that legit makes me wants to unsubscribe to Amazon prime. Seriously which kindergarten class made this?

Watch and find out!
What can I say about this movie that hasn’t been said before, should I start with the old “down-under” cliché and say it reminds me just a little of the Babadook. Yes it does has that element, but for me the first movie that came to mind was The Taking of Deborah Logan, but this was a much more PG version. Here we have a mother and grand-daughter trying to make sense of their elder mother’s/grandmother’s whereabouts for the last three days. It was obvious she didn’t leave the house, for if she can show up out of nowhere without disturbing their sleep then she must have been in the house all along. Just like with The Taking of Deborah Logan, the audience is left wondering if this lady is losing her mind due to old age or if she is genuinely being disturbed by some malevolent force.Watch and find out!

Was it the transfer?
Review for the DVD of "Relic" (ASIN: B08MWB4XGQ).I am tempted to award "Relic" one star, but am reluctant to do so because there are far too many one star reviews on the basis that the reviewer simply didn't find it interesting and stating something like "Boring" or "Waste of money" etc.Well "Relic I would say is neither or those two things but (and here's my problem with "Relic"). If the director wanted the film to look like what I was looking at, then definitely two stars and probably only one star from me.Now I know there are people who will say that where a review such as this is concerned that it should be about the film and nothing else, but I'd have to disagree (as I have stated the format and the ASIN quite deliberately at the start of the review). What I was looking at, was for much of the film - hardly anything, that is to say there was hardly anything discernable on the screen. If a light was put on in the house it looked like it illuminated the room about as much as if one lit a match. The few scenes that were outside were also very dull (brightness- wise).Within a few minutes of starting to watch the film, I switched the lights of and watched the film in a darkened room (much like what was shown on screen for most of the film!).So, did director Natalie Erika James intend "Relic" to look like what I was looking at? Well I've since looked at a trailer on IMDb and on Google and yes it would seem that what I saw was how it was meant to be.Before anyone says I should in that case have watched a trailer, well I prefer to know as little as possible about a film, often attracted to it because of the cast or director etc and that was the case with "Relic" as in Emily Mortimer being in the cast. Maybe though, if you are thinking of watching this film you might want to check out a trailer. As for the film well it's a shame because better lit it would have been an easier film to follow for me and probably more enjoyable and possibly in line with all those five star reviews from the likes of "The Observer" and "The Daily Telegraph" as quoted on the cover of the DVD.On the DVD (ASIN: B08MWB4XGQ) you get:"Relic" (1 hour 29 minutes)Scene SelectionSet Up:Surround Sound 5.1, Stereo 2.0Optional English Subtitles

Great film, poor Bluray
I wont critic the film here apart from saying I could of really enjoyed it but for the truly appalling bluray transfer. This has got to be the worst I have ever seen. The false contours in the dark scenes were overwhelming, I spent the first twenty minutes trying to adjust the picture on my TV. In all honesty you would be better off just streaming it. I've seen better picture quality on dvd rips on YouTube. The company that put this out should be ashamed of themselves. I dont usually review films, but I felt I had to say something in this case. Interesting film spoiled by terrible transfer.

Creeping Death
Relic is brilliant. Not Peter Hyams' museum-based 90s monster horror, but an intriguing new Australian film about dread - fear of death and fear of the decay that might set in as the end nears us. This one is anchored by a fantastic performance from Robyn Nevin, as the once-great matriarch stricken with Alzheimer's Disease, whose house seems to be falling apart at exactly the same rate, and may actually be driving the change, and the desperate yet futile efforts of her daughter, played brilliantly by our own Emily Mortimer, and her granddaughter, played by Bella Heathcote, to reimpose some normality or even just help in the simplest of ways. Don't watch this movie if you're expecting jump scares or sudden shocks - like dementia itself, Relic is about the creeping inevitability of a sad end and the powerlessness of those left behind. I found this one particularly resonated with me. It's not an easy watch, but it's never boring, and considering it is director Natalie Erika James' first film, I think it's safe to say she's got a very interesting future ahead of her - 8 horrific things in the walls out of 10.

Glorious and heartbreaking
I loved this Australian gem of a psychological horror film, although calling it a horror film sort of makes it seem quite straightforward, which it absolutely is not. The three main leads are all superb and the examination of dementia and decay is heartfelt. Wonderfully dark, oh that ending....

Drama not horror
This is a drama not a horror,a mother/grandmother goes missing , her daughter + granddaughter go to investigate were she is etc when she returns she does,nt know where she,d been . She is scared and forgetful, basically it's about old age , alzeimers, our fears of the unknown etc
