What has improved? the lid in the old carafe needed to be partially opened in order to pour the coffee which meant heat could escape. Would it hold a porcelain drip filter on top without falling off?** A: The top round section of the lid unscrews. The part under that, with the spout and where the top of the handle meets must stay on. That only unscrews if you want to remove the glass thermal jug inside as it holds it securely in place. With the top portion unscrewed a round lip is on top, diameter 3 3/4 inches. As long as the drip filter has a flat that will sit on that lip then yes it will sit there. The inside of the threaded section is 2 3/4 inch diameter and the hole into the flask is 1 1/2 inch. The height from the hole to the top of the lip is just over 1 inch. **Q: Is the inside of this 1.85L thermos made of glass or stainless steel?** A: I am unsure but suspect it is glass as there is a section in the care of the carafe that refers to particles that may flake off of the inside of the carafe of the type that are found on glass in nature. I like how this is glass on inside but of course you would have to be careful ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Keeps my tea hot/warm for several hours *by E***- on July 6, 2013* On the bright side it does what it is supposed to do - keep hot liquids hot/warm. I can fill it at 6:30am with hot tea (pre-heating the carafe first), and it will still be hot enough to enjoy the tea with milk at 9:30. By noon however it isn't hot enough to warm up the milk I add (perhaps 10-15% of the volume in the cup) and still be an enjoyable temperature. I don't care for the lid design as it seems to be a pain to clean/dry out. Liquid stays in there. Also when pouring the last 1/4-1/2 cup of tea out I have to almost invert the carafe to get it out - this will result in tea leaking out of the lid. Speaking of leaking - as I bought this to carry to work with me I was seriously disappointed the first day when it leaked all over my bag.
