Inconsistent read
There was premise to the story. The lead character Jemma finds out a secret and as the story goes along starts to find answers. That’s when the problems start. The storyline doesn’t flow. One moment she doesn’t know what she is so asks questions, but instead of listening starts arguments with everyone. She also goes from running scared to the next day is like nothing happened, I started to get whiplash.I tried to move pass these squabbles only to find myself questioning why a young girl is suppose to be special but doesn’t receive an education about her new world from the adults around her. Instead the story relies on small pieces of information being fed to the lead, and her constantly being told she doesn’t understand and yet no one enlightens her?

Don't go out in the woods alone
Seriously when will Jemma learn to ask for help. She is forever going off on her own and no one knows where she is which is so frustrating . If I had a big bad vampire after me I would have acted so differently. She is continually reckless and steamrolling her way over everyone's feelings. Trace is the long suffering boyfriend who loves despite how she is always keeping secrets and going out with other guys, Dominic the typical bad boy with a good heart (only for Jemma)and Nikki the bitch witch who we all love to hate. Dominic reminds of Damon out of Vampire Diaries only less interesting. There is no character development here as she repeats the same mistakes over and over again. This book had potential but Jemma made it far too easy for her enemies to find her. The big secret was revealed and I did have an inkling about what it was but I didn't anticipate the way the story ended. Hopefully the characters will show some depth in the third book as they are stuck being one dimensional so far.

Inevitable Decisions
This book starts off with memories of the last chapter in the first book. That changed everything. Jemma is heartbroken and acts out like it a teenager. Then the next day, this story gets even more twisted. How do you know which truth to believe?Trace is confusing; one minute, he is hot, the next cold, and then hot again. His back and forth and the love triangle with Nikki and Jemma honestly are annoying. I don’t think my emotions can keep up with it all. But it seems to get all explained; however, the pain from the last book and the predicament are still issues. But of course, something happens as soon as they reconcile, and we’re back to cold and aloof. She is struggling with a lot of different problems at the same time.Jemma embraces her slayer side as she is intrigued with why she is so special. She rescues her friend solving at least one of the issues in this story and the last story. Trace seems to have warmed up again, and he and Jenna have a delightful romance going on even with all the trouble around. Jemma is still on the hunt for a revenant, all while trying to learn herself and keep the visions from being a reality. This book gets a lot more doom and gloom as they discover her blood is the key. A prophecy long ago talked about it, and now, she has a genuine terrifying reality to face. Trace is trying to re-join the order, and Dominic is going to infiltrate with the bad guys. Something terrible happens, and Jemma makes an educated decision. Jemma is now facing an unknown enemy while also being taken from those she loves. The story continues in Iniquitous.

Went downhill instead of improving
I liked the first book enough to order the sequel. I was annoyed with Jemma who seemed really immature in the first book but i figured she would grow. Nope. I was so frustrated and just nauseous with her actions/decisions. Her relationship with Trace irritated me. Every 5 minutes they hooked up and then broke up. I've read better romantic soulmate situations. I couldn't even finish this book and decided not to even purchase the next books in the series.

Improving
Gave first 3 stars and liked this one a little more. Similes and metaphors are still abundant as is the description of the weather and training with Gabriel. Started off great! Loved the new kick a** side of Jemma, but she's so wishy washy. Maybe it can be chalked up to her age or everything she has thrown at her, but she has two weeks to get Engel what he wants, yet she seems to forget Taylor completely at times. Mainly when she's with Trace. I don't know if he loves her because he knew he would in the future or why she acts so nonchalant with their connection/his love other than knowing they'll have a stronger one in the future. She is kept in the dark about many things related to her slayer side and it's frustrating she didn't make someone tell her everything all at once. And they almost had sex without even going on a date and only called him "boyfriend" once. I'm not a fan of Tessa, Gabriel's okay, Nikki's still a b, and Dominic is still my favorite.

Couldn’t put these books down!
I finished all five books in this series in a week. I was so wrapped up in the story it was all I could think about. It reminds me of a mix of twilight, vampire diaries, and the chilling adventures of Sabrina (Netflix version). My only complaint is that the books are riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. There are at least 2 typos in nearly every chapter which makes me wonder if there is an editor involved in the publishing of these books. I hope there is a way they can be fixed bc it really takes away from the reader’s experience.

Invidious By Bianca Scardoni: jemma is trying to figure out how to navigate her new life as a skater all while trying to find her friend Taylor and the immortal amulet! I hate saying a book is a DNF only because I like to give them an chance but sadly this book is DNF and I literally only have 100 pages left! Uuuuggggghhhh!!! 🤣 this book was pretty much the MC crying about a neckless and a million other dumb things! It just didn’t connect with me and the whole time I was rotting for some romance but there was literally just complaining! Hopefully one day I can finish this series!

Book two
I liked this... A gripping read from start to finish.Poor jemma not knowing who to trust, her heart is her downfall and her greatest asset.Finding out just what she is and where she fits in the world is the answer she needs to know, being a teenager and having all that angst transitioning into adulthood, having strong emotions and facing danger on a daily basis is just exhausting. It's well written, great characters and dialogue with very easy to follow plot lines which in this book I saw coming but it's addictive all the same.Cracking read from start to finish. Now to the next chapter x

Another brilliant book
A great follow up to Inception. A lot more twists, and pacing was great. It was just as good, if not better than the first. This series is such a great read! On to the third!

I have loved reading this 2nd book just as much or even more than the first! I feel like I'm really getting to know the characters on a deeper level, and consequently rooting for them all the more! There have been plenty of plot twists and turns to keep me turning pages all through the night! Can't wait to know what happens next!
