It worked when I needed it! Happy.
I bought this just under two years ago with the main purpose of providing power for a safe shutdown of a NAS in the event of power interruption. This was my first UPS so had to do quite a bit of research into the correct capacity and compatibility with my NAS. The UPS communicates with the NAS by USB and triggers a safe shutdown. It all works seamlessly and was very easy to set up in the NAS. So far it's been needed once and worked perfectly. I also tested it by cutting the power upon installation and twice since purchase to ensure it was still working. It's compact, like an oversized load of sliced bread, it's quiet and sits under a TV. I've not noticed any noticeable difference in my energy use, which was a concern initially. The only down side is the lights on the front are a really bright deep green, I had to tape over them they were very annoying. Another annoyance, which was down to my ignorance, was I had to purchase separate adapters if I wanted to plug in something that used a regular 3 pin mains plug. These were relatively cheap but added about 10% on to the price overall. The other weird thing, only for for the first day or so was... the smell. It was absolutely honking when first switched on! I thought it was a major problem and turned it straight off but saw other reviews mentioned this so persevered and it went away on its own. The price was acceptable and has been good value considering it allowed the safe powering off my NAS during an outage, something that could have caused damage to the equipment and possibly left me unable to access work if I had been away. Very happy, would purchase again.

Noisy - No Power Connection Lead Included
I purchased this UPS to connect to my small office server which runs 24/7. Living in a village means we are occasionally subjected to short power disconnections. A Server running 24/7 with CCTV writing to the HDD requires a stable power connection so that your HDD are not damaged by such power cuts. I didn't require anything to heavy in terms of a UPS as our power is normally restored pretty quickly. I just wanted something that would connect to my server via USB and initiate the self protection mode for the disks - the BX750MI would provide this protection for me so i placed my order. First impressions were that the UPS is fairly large. For a single 9ah battery i expected it to be a little smaller. Inside the box you get the main UPS unit and an IEC male to female kettle connection lead. Whilst this is great for built in PSU's it was of no use to me as my device using a barrel plug connection. I solved this by connecting an IEC extension lead to allow me 3 pin UK plug connections. What was super frustrating is that the package did not include a power connection cable!! How can a company sell a product that you can not even use out of the box! I didn't have a spare IEC 3 pin power lead, so this meant i had to go out and buy one to connect the device to the main power. I can not being to tell you how frustrated this made me feel! After i purchased the power lead (yes i am still super annoyed by this!) the device sprung to life. The device is very simple, providing a minimal amount of backup power for lower powered device, up to around 300W. My server uses around 45w so this was more than ample. There is no display on the UPS so you have no idea of your remaining run time load, however my QNAP recognised the device straight away when connected with the included USB cable and informed me i had around 45mins of power. There are two strips of very bright green LED's on the device which illuminate the whole room at night. You can dim these slightly by holding the power button, but they are still way to bright for my liking. You can not disable them whatsoever. Testing the UPS function worked well, it continued to power my server until reconnected to the mains supply. What was annoying was the loud buzzing that came from the unit when it was supplying power to my server. I have another UPS in my lounge and this is absolutely silent apart from the intermittent beep it makes to alert you to the power failure. The buzzing from this APC unit made me question if the device was functioning correctly and if it was safe! I also tested the load on the device after the internal batteries were charged to 100%. The UPS has an overhead of around 15w according to my energy meter. So it will increase your energy costs by connecting up this UPS, however it should only be by around a small amount. My understanding of this device is that is also uses a stepped sinewave rather than a pure one - that should be fine for most home usage scenarios, but if you have highly sensitive equipment, especially with motors connected, then you should consider spending a little more to obtain a pure sinewave UPS. Would i recommend this UPS to others? If it came with a power lead then i most probably would, it's not badly priced, and does do the job of maintaining power during a power cut. The bright LED's i can kind of live with, the buzzing noise is frustrating, but this only happens when it switches to battery power mode. I just can not get past the fact they do not include a power lead with the device! Based on this i just can not recommend this device to others! A kettle lead literally would cost this company a few pence - it's just bizarre to sell a product you can not power straight from the box?! My advice is look elsewhere... I hope that you found my review helpful

Nice model and quality.
Do like APC models, have 4 now, but this was to replace one that stopped charging the battery, so this is larger in backup power and size. But does what it says. Takes a week or so for the burn in smell to go, but no issue.

Works well, but no power cable and strong plastic smell.
UPS was almost fully charged out the box. Began working immediately. Unit out the box has a strong plastic smell, just something to think about before putting it in the living room with someone with a sensitive nose. Also did not come with a power cable for the unit itself, only a C13 to c14 plug, which you can use to plug the unit into your device, but you would have to use the devices cable to charge the UPS, something to keep in mind if you don’t have a device you intend to power with the kettle style lead.

Power Guzzler suffers from poor AVR & high quiescent 'Stand By' current.
I bought this unit to replace a 25 year old UPS unit that had failed due to a momentary external Line-Earth mains fault. I was attracted by APC's boast of the “950” having a highly desirable "AVR" feature, in addition to it's UPS function. UNFORTUNATELY (and I suspect it may be the AVR feature which is responsible for) the high quiescent SB Power consumed by the '950 UPS' unit. After the 'Stand By' lead acid accumulator is fully charged, there should be only a very low dc cell maintenance current at a fixed constant voltage applied to this battery, and the current essentially then should be so small as to be virtually undetectable from outside the UPS Unit. SADLY the top cover of the “950” UPS becomes quite warm to the touch, even after the battery recharge is complete, which implies a significant amount of energy is being consumed in Stand By. Unsurprisingly my external mains monitor Test Unit is measuring a ludicrously high quiescent input of 39VA with a 'Power Factor' of 0.5, which registers as 20Watts of POWER! Such a statistic is truly appalling, and implies an on-going and continuous operating cost of several pence per day, which would certainly not be insignificant over the several year projected operational life of the UPS. I am drawn to suspect the claimed mains "Automatic Voltage Regulator" function of this 950 Unit as a possible cause of this wasted energy. With a competently designed AVR (=Automatic Voltage Regulator), the UPS output voltage should be essentially constant, regardless of the input mains voltage fluctuations. It would appear that this claimed "AVR" feature has been VERY poorly implemented, and is (probably) no more than a simple relay selected tapping on an internal buck/boost transformer when the mains input rises ABOVE, or BELOW, two pre-set threshold points. When the nominal 230V ac input voltage is varied below approximately 200V or above 250V, the 'click' of an internal relay is heard to operate, and there is a step function attempt to INCREASE or REDUCE the UPS output voltage accordingly. WHAT THERE IS NOT appears to be any subsequent degree of vernier finesse of these ‘coarse switch-selected corrections’, which remain in operation until the input mains voltage deviations drift nearer to the nominal 230V, at which point the UPPER or LOWER coarse voltage correction is de-selected via a further audible 'click'. The UPS Inverter only seems to contribute to the "950" Unit's mains output when the mains input voltage is ludicrously low, below around 100V! or ACTUALLY absent, and it then switches in to provide a stepped (crude-sine-like) waveform with an RMS output voltage suitable for powering a PC or monitor etc. Pleasingly, the UPS Inverter’s switch mode pulsed output (shown in the photo peaking to well over 300V) displays as an almost exact 240V RMS 50Hz output, which is excellent. As a matter of fact the Unit's Manual specifically states that the inverter's output is NOT suitable for driving 'motor type' loads, such as Garage Doors. Equally however, it appears that the UPS' Inverter is NOT used to provide any correction, or compensation for mains voltage fluctuations that do not trigger either the 'high' or 'low' voltage thresholds. Consequently small mains voltage variations (generated for testing in this case, by manually varying the output voltage from a supply Variac) ARE NOT either detected, or indeed COMPENSATED FOR, with the result that the UPS Unit's output ALSO CONTAINS THESE UNCORRECTED VARIATIONS too! The “950” Manual advises these two voltage thresholds are Factory Preset, but does provide some information as to how these two voltage thresholds may be adjusted. I would venture to suggest that APC’s claim that the "950 UPS Unit" PROVIDES AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATION, is not literally correct, as there appears to be no attempt to provide vernier-like voltage trimming of the Unit’s looped mains output. ONLY as quoted earlier, a crude switch selected element of coarse correction. In view of the facts that the "AVR" function of the "950" unit appears (from what I have seen) to be a far-fetched and tenuous claim, and the ludicrously high quiescent power that the Unit gobbles, when effectively doing nothing, and the fact too that the Lead Acid Gel battery could be being continuously cooked and damaged, when it should be on the lightest of float charges. For a sealed gel battery of this type, the 3 year life endurance mentioned in the documentation seems very meagre, and possibly the result of poor float charge management - I would have anticipated nearly double this for this intermittent type of service. Whilst an IEC mains extension cable and USB leads were included inside the very efficiently packed "950" unit, the 4 self adhesive feet that SHOULD have been included too, were NOT! So the entire weight of the UPS is born on the 4 delicate 'cups' on the unit's base with a risk of scratching the shelf/desk beneath, rather than distributed across the (missing) 4 rubber or plastic sticky feet. I propose to return this Unit to Amazon for a full refund.

Practical, functional and cost effective UPS solution for home automation servers or home labs
I run 3x Dell Optiplex Micro PC (65 Watts a box) and POE Switch (with WiFi access points via the POE switch). This supports most of my home automation stuff. I haven't had any long term outages so couldn't advise what the extended run time is, but for those 5-10min blips (they happen on a fairly regular basis around here) it means that all of my services are still up and running. Yes there are more advanced units out there with web management etc - but if you just want to keep the lights on, this does the trick. Its nearly silent, doesn't get warm, enough said really.

Solid, but the battery life and warnings are poor
Bought this 2 years ago to serve as a battery backup for my router, Wi-Fi AP and to give my NAS some security so it could shut down safely. It has a USB port which works well with the Synology NAS without any real configuration, whereas other UPS' I was looking at at the same price did not. I calculated that it could potentially run those devices for 1-2 hours without too much issue. Otherwise the unit is fairly basic, and it uses IEC connectors so you will potentially need to buy new cables and so on to actually connect to it. The BX950MI I used has several battery backup outlets and a few merely surge protected ones, but that's fine, and the relatively small size of the unit happened to fit in well with my network setup. So far, all good, and for the money, a decent unit. Where I've deducted stars is because after 22 months, the battery unit on mine is completely dead, which is much sooner than expected - I expected 3-5 years before needing replacement. This is a shame, but what really frustrated me is the unit did not make this easy to understand. One day I saw the lights on the unit were constantly flashing, but there was no audible tone, which didn't match the "replace battery" warning in the manual. I experimented with it to try and resolve whatever issue it was over the course of a full evening, where the warnings were not clear, until it eventually settled on the replace battery error, which is the flashing light AND a continuous tone. Problem was I could not get the tone to silence using the physical controls, and it only stopped after bringing down a laptop and installing the associated desktop app and connecting via USB. Here in fairness in the software it clearly indicated the battery needed replacing, but it was frustrating and highlighted how clunky the controls are on this particular series. Overall, it does what is says, but the whole point of a UPS is to avoid damage and have less downtime, and I've had more downtime trying to understand the issues it was having than I would have had by not having it at all.

Protects my HA and stops it from dying every time the power trips.
APC Back UPS, BX750MI (750VA) has been a solid buy for me, mainly because I needed something to protect my Home Assistant setup. My HA box kept dying every time the power tripped, and I got tired of dealing with sudden shutdowns, corrupted boot issues, and the whole recovery headache. Since plugging everything into this UPS, those brief power cuts and flickers have stopped being a problem. It kicks in quickly, keeps HA running long enough to ride out short outages, and gives me that breathing room to shut things down properly if the power stays off. It’s also reassuring to have surge protection built in, especially when the electricity is being temperamental. Setup was straightforward, it feels well-made, and it doesn’t take up loads of space. The peace of mind alone has been worth it for me. If you’ve got a small server, NAS, router, or Home Assistant setup that keeps getting knocked out by trips or short outages, this is an easy recommendation. Overall, it does exactly what I bought it for, it protects my HA and stops it from dying every time the power trips.
