Review: Far Superior to any Compass type Binoculars - I needed magnification with a compass being out in the Gulf of Mexico and a way to judge distance as well. This is the best "bang for the buck" for that purpose. Excellent light gathering, very good lens, and it may be manufactured in China, but it was certainly designed by those in the USA as well as using the best components ! On the side there is a hand strap so that you don't drop it even with wet hands, the carrying pouch is very well made and comes with a belt strap. The lens covers are connected so that you don't lose them. Fantastic warranty which probably will not be needed as it is a well built item. Finding the compass in the monocular is instant, but never annoying. Why have big, heavy, cumbersome binoculars that take up so much room when this does the same job in a well designed and well built package? And I feel safer with one hand on the boat steering wheel when holding something to find my direction as that also allows a steadier grip and less movement of the monocular, rather than two hands on binoculars and hope the boat can steer itself....don't think so. Bottom line.....excellent product, great value, and extremely useful and if you think that you will use it at night, then take a small flashlight and put it above the unit and the compass is as bright as in the daytime !
Review: Useless - The physical design of the Barska waterproof Compass 7x42 is sound, Howver, the compass and therefore the instrument is completely useless. The compass sticks inconsistently. I have used a set of binoculars with this type of compass since the Vietnam era without a problem. Here I opted a monocular - bad decision. Unfortunately, It took too long for the return period to complete the thorough testing. The compass does not work under any angle condition. Do not buy this item. The manufacturing standards are sloppy compared to other more reliable items.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this Deep Sea Monocular float, like the Deep Sea Binoculars?**
A: yes

**Q: if anybody is able to explain how to use the rangefinder of this product?**
A: Hello, The scope is marked in milliradians which allow simple "in the head" range calculations. Lots of information online. Just look up Mil-Dot or Mil-Dot rangefinding

the user's guide from mil.dot.com has the basic info. other pages on their site have more : http://www.mil-dot.com/user-guide

Wikipedia also has lots of bakground: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milliradian

FWIW, I use my barska sight for coastal navigation along the gulf coast where it is important to keep minimumm distance AWAY from various landmarks because the Gulf is so shallow. This scope with its built in compass is my number one navigation tool.

**Q: What is the eyeview comfort time on this?**
A: In general I never keep it in My eye for any extended period of time, but I have to say that I've noticed no discomfort in the times that I have used it it certainly has good resolution and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. It turned out to be a little bit larger than I had anticipated as I was looking for a small pocket monocular, But that's made up for in its clarity and range of vision. In general I think you'll like it Jane, good luck

**Q: Is the eyepiece rubber or does it have an eyeglass spin function?**
A: I forget I didn t like it and returned it. wasn t much clearer than a cheaper one I was gona replace with it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Barska 7x42
*by S***. on August 5, 2012*

For the most part I have been satisfied with the performance of this monocular. if there was any criticism that I would make is that the eye piece protectors, the rubber cups ,are nearly impossible to keep in place. other than that the compass is easy to see and does not take up any part of the view. It does not have a light for the compass so night use is limited by that factor but other than that I would recommend it to anybody looking for a fairly bulky moocular, caution this is not a small pocket or purse model
