Simple installation, no issues
No issues! The is no sound when the alarm is not triggered. The running light isn't bright or flashing. These units weren't difficult to install and changing the batteries wont be difficult either. I haven't had them long and haven't tested them with smoke still can't speak to the sensitivity.

Change it after 10 years or sooner if it misfires.
The delivery was overnight and what a relief. These smoke detectors were spot on. We had our former smoke detectors for over 20 years and thought maintenance meant changing the battery and vacuuming any exterior dust particles. Nope, it means one should replace it at least every 15 years. HD and many hardware stores can't stock all the various types of smoke detectors. I looked up the original product number on the old smoke alarm and it was a perfect match. The only item that had to be changed was the base of the unit didn't match the previous one. Everything else worked perfectly. 1. Don't use a regular 9 volt, we purchased the Eveready long life and they generally last 5 years. Date the battery before you place it in the detector. 2. Date your detector on the outside, so you know when to replace it. 3. If you have a detector that is older than 10 years, definitely replace it. The MFG warranties it for 10 years. After that you are on your own. 4. When the weather changes for the winter, that is when the batteries and the back up system will blow in the middle of the night, generally after 430am. The price was right, 6 alarms for a little over $100 with shipping and tax. Do yourself a favor and replace the alarm after 10 years. The alarm company told me this or I would have just changed the battery and had the alarm go off again.

Work but found and fixed a quality problem... beeping continues
I just received this 6 pack of First Alert/BRK smoke Detectors and installed them in place of 12 year old detectors of the BRK brand. Two things: 1) they look identical to the old ones but they are bigger and don't fit in the same trim strip. Not a real problem since they come with new trim strips but annoying since replacement involved more than just plugging them in. 2) these are battery back up units and have inconsistent manufacturing. 5 of the 6 installed and worked perfectly. The 6th installed and immediately started chirping once per minute. As luck would have it, this was installed in the highest of the ceilings so many trips up a 16' ladder were required. this once per minute chirp supposedly means the battery is dead however the red LED is supposed to flash at the same time. The red LED did not flash. Also, you should be able to sound the alarm with only the battery connected however nothing happened when the device was not connected to the 120V power. Now, don't fool yourself about the battery... after you disconnect from 120V power the thing still works for a while. the 120V circuit powers up a big capacitor that takes a while to drain. this means that you can have a bad battery and still have the thing work (for a bit.) so, grab a pillow and hold down the test button until the sound drains away. now you know it is the battery. if it has a good battery, it will keep working. I opened the battery compartment and found the battery was quite hot to the touch. Since this was a new battery I knew something was wrong.. the only way a 9V battery gets hot is through a direct short of the terminals. Not good but at least it can only start a fire under very extreme and very unlikely circumstances. I took the thing down and found three latches around the edge of the plastic dome which allows the dome to pop off. Now the battery compartment swings open and if you look closely, you may see that the spring metal contacts are touching each other at location where the springs are soldered to the circuit board. I used a small screw driver to create space and inserted some electrical tape as an insulator. Since it is 9V DC almost any insulator would work... even a sheet of paper. Now, with the battery installed, you get the correct result when you push the test button. And the dang thing doesn't chirp every minute. it is easy to pop the dome back on. Better than New. Just so you know! This is not a difficult fix but it is a safe and easy alternative to sending it back to the manufacturer(or Amazon) as the case may be. Great Value in a 6 pack dc

Great replacement for 20 year old original.
Replacing 20 year old original alarms with these. Connects to my existing wiring, so I didn’t need to use the wiring that came with it. I was hoping these would attach to the same mounting bracket I already had since they’re the same brand, but they don’t. Not a big deal and actually helpful since they’re slightly wider than the old ones and covered the old paint the painters didn’t get covered around it. All I had to do was loosen the screws, twist the old mounting bracket out and put the new one on in reverse order. Easy. I was surprised these came with the backup battery already installed, so now I can return the pack of batteries I bought. Just pull the tab out and they’re activated. Comes with a dust cover I guess if these are installed during construction to keep them protected from dust. I wouldn’t use it to paint over, because it won’t cover the bracket. I would recommend these from this well-known brand.

Easy to install.
Easy ti install. I had to use the new bases, but no need to rewire as the plug was the same as the old BRK detectors.
