The little re-key tool fits into the SmartKey slot and lets you reset the lock to work with a different key without taking the entire lock apart. I like that this gave me a simple way to change which key opens the door without replacing the hardware. The pieces are small, so I kept everything together while working so nothing disappeared. The important thing is to make sure you actually have a Kwikset SmartKey lock because this isn’t made for a standard Kwikset lock.
