A young prodigy, French trumpeter Raynald Colom caught the attention of jazz greats Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove and Kenny Barron, who helped support Colom's musical studies. In 2000 he moved to Barcelona where he started freelancing, working with musicians such as Randy Becker, Jesse Davis and Horacio Fumero. During this period, Colom also traveled throughout the US and Latin America as part of Manu Chao's ''Clandestino'' tour. Currently, Colom is a star of the Spanish jazz scene, both in concert and in the studio. Rise, Colom's new album for Jazz Village, is jazz at its most modern. It blends influences as disparate as Bartok, Coltrane, Bix Biederbecke, hip-hop and even French chanson into a rich and flavorful jazz stew that defies categorization. Rise includes a cameo by World Village artist Sophia Rei Koutsovitis.
