Quiet, easy to read. Keeps good time.
I was a bit doubtful about buying this clock because of some of the negative reviews but I have been pleasantly surprised by how good it actually is.It has been in use for about two weeks now, and has kept perfect time. The alarm is loud (of the beep-beep-beep-beep, beep-beep-beep-beep variety and you snooze it for five minutes using the big button, which is the same as the light button, on top where it is easy to find. When snoozed the alarm repeats every five minutes apparently forever. To cancel the alarm completely, you have to use the slide button on the back of the clock. which isn't so easy to get to.I find the luminous dial is easy to read and stays bright all night. The numbers are luminous, large and clear; in the dark, the hands are easily seen as black against the luminous centre circle and have one dot and two dots of luminous paint to distinguish hour and minute hands. If the luminosity really isn't bright enough then the backlight lights everything up enough to clearly see what's what. When I first unpacked the clock, I "charged up" the luminous paint by standing the clock on a bright window sill for a couple of hours. This may have helped, but it seems to keep its brightness with just standing on my bedside table in daylight / under the bedside light now.One curiosity is that the knobs for setting the time and the alarm time both only turn anti-clockwise. Most other clocks I have owned let you turn either way. They have arrows moulded in the plastic casing to indicate this and the instructions clearly say that too. This may be why some people have reported that the knobs are fragile and break, because the won't turn the wrong way...It is not completely silent, but makes a very quiet whirr / very fast ticking noise if you listen very hard. It doesn't seem to be loud enough to notice unless you really concentrate on it to hear it. Maybe they differ between examples?I simply don't understand the comments that people have made about requiring zinc-carbon non-alkaline batteries. My instructions quite clearly say a high quality AA size battery between 1.2 and 1.7 volts. That includes alkaline and zinc-carbon and also rechargeable at the bottom end of the voltage scale. I am using an alkaline AA as used by rabbits.I found the battery was a tight fit in the battery compartment. It seemed to go in, but wasn't properly in place which may be why some people have said the clock doesn't work properly or gives up after a while? I used the point of a paper knife to lever the battery into position. I can't comment about the battery life because I have only used the clock for two weeks without much alarm use.The cover of the battery compartment is also a tricky proposition, again it seems to close, but leaves a gap where you can see the frame of the clock. You need to make sure the little plastic lugs engage with the slots in the plastic casing for it to clip in with no gap. Fiddly but doable.I thought the build quality and finish are very good for the price. The clock is lightweight, but stands on quite a big base at the back, so it doesn't tip very easily and of course if it does get knocked over, it doesn't take a strongman to stand it up again. To summarise, nice clock, keeps time, easy to read in the dark and in the daytime. quiet with a good alarm but a bit fiddly to switch the alarm off if you are using it every day.

Clock
Not bad for what it is and for the money

Is the clock supposed to have a back?
The blocks okay but is it supposed to have a back? Mine hasn't. It's just open where the battery goes?!?!"Clocks"

Ideal for trips away.
Just what I wanted.

Disappointing build quality and broke almost immediately
Unfortunately I wasn’t very impressed with the build quality of this clock. It looks nice enough and the size is good for a bedside table, but it feels quite cheaply made. One of the buttons actually broke almost straight away with normal use, which was really disappointing as it was basically brand new. Because of that it already feels unreliable. It’s a shame because the clock itself is quiet and easy to read, which is exactly what I wanted. But with the button breaking so quickly, I can’t really recommend it based on my experience.
