Great tool for the job
I just needed a basic OBD II reader and this is far more than what I was expecting. I would give it 6 stars if it were possible. Does require downloading a free app but it was quick and easy. It has features I don't even know how to use but it's easy to figure out and get the info you need.Follow up. Been using for several months now and it has already paid for itself over and over. I have older SUV's and this gives me so much information that I can relay to a mechanic without wasting their time. Several codes thrown I was able to fix on my own. The report feature is very handy.

Cheaper ($) but better!
The ANCEL BD200 works perfectly! Hooks up to my iPhone XR every time. Have used it in all of my cars (see below) and it has helped with showing, researching and clearing trouble codes. Shows LOADS of info in real-time. I send screenshots to my mechanic and he helps me out. Gives more info than OBD readers over $100 at the parts store. (I actually ended up buying a second one so I could keep one with me on trips). My cars:2007 Honda CRV2003 Honda Civic2005 Chrysler Town & Country2010 Mercury Milan

Data not retrievable unless scanner is plugged in
It paired up easily via Bluetooth, and worked immediately when scanning trouble codes. I had no trouble accessing any of the features or doing any of the performance tests. Some of the data on the features dashboard are for more advanced mechanics, but I was able to muddle through them. I don't know what a few of the features are for, but I will get to know them in time. The app has a help function, and you can also send feedback to the company if you have a problem installing or connecting it. Trouble codes are defined for you, so you don't need to look anything up, and you will know what the problem is immediately. "Pending codes" are also displayed. My only gripe about this device is that none of the dashboard functions, including DTC history can be accessed in the app unless the device is plugged into the vehicle. I wanted to go to my mechanic and show him what the device actually read. When I got to the shop and opened the app, all it said was, "Device not connected"! For this reason alone, I give it four stars. So for all intents and purposes, the app itself is useless if you aren't actively using the code scanner. It should at least retain the trouble code logs! Also, while you can leave the device connected when you are doing trip performance functions, you should not leave it plugged in permanently.

all a diy mechanic will need
the app almost immediately connects to the scan tool. the interface is clean and easy to use. it allows you to run trouble codes, view live data, freeze frames, monitor your trips which will provide you very detailed info at the end of trip like speed, braking distance, RPMs, distance, etc. each mil code will show all possible reasons it may have been thrown. in short if you don't have a code reader buy this now. if you do have one, buy this now. ive been through several and this beats the pants off those. I'm not in any way affiliated with this company I just know quality when I see it.

Adapter is locked to app...
NOT FOR HYBRIDSThis device is listed as "compatible" with Toyota Prius. That's a bit misleading, it only reads codes from the gasoline engine, not the complete engine including the hybrid system and battery. In other words, it's useless on a hybrid vehicle. It did not read codes from the chassis, TPMS or anything else either.LOCKED TO APPThat wouldn't be such a problem if it would work with 3rd party apps for the other systems, but it is locked to the app it comes with and the phone will not recognize it to connect. No idea why that is necessary, they only gain by opening it to other apps. Go figure. As for the app itself, it's nice. Connects quickly and easily, it's easy to use. Builtin DTC lookups. Too bad it doesn't work on my car.

Literally just bought this thing, worked one time, then this happened.....
I bought this thing in a week and a half ago, just used it on 5/12/2021, followed every piece of what seemed easy instructions, connected fine the first time, seemed to do a thorough scan, was able to get the diagnostic report, then noticed some clicking noises consistently tapping somewhere in my Mercury Mountaineer that i never heard before, suddenly my dash lights flickered and the device disconnected ( Car battery strong before device plugged in ), i turned my car off the on position and refollowed the instructions to reconnect, Turned to on position, tried to reconnect the app to the Ancel device (nothing).. So after frustratingly trying over and over hitting the "connect" in the app, the power in my SUV died again, this time even worse, i tried to put my windows back up because i got tired of trying and there was absolutely no power to get my windows up..This device COMPLETELY drained the life out of my poor battery in a car i already had issues with.. So this thing gave me an additional problem to resolve..I will be going to only manual plug in from here on out, the Bluetooth crap is just not the way to go..I'm relentless so i will try one more time before i return this thing.. i also noticed another thing, it is complicated to get to your past diagnostic checks, you have to basically stop it from auto connecting then go to the failed check and tap on the very small very difficult to locate icon at the top of the app and look for your previous check.VERY POORLY DESIGNED APP AND DEVICE!!!

Great so far
I have used this scanner on a jeep renegade and an older jeep wrangler. It has been great so far. Easy to use, gives plenty of information. It saves a lot of time and money having to take the vehicles somewhere. On one occasion the app wouldn't connect to the reader, so I had to uninstall and reinstall the software. Not a big deal.
