Used to connect old VCR to modern smart tv.
This is a great little item!!I purchased it as my new smart tv doesn’t have a Scart input and I wanted to connect my vhs player for all the old classic ex rentals I’m collecting.Connection was as as simple as Scart Lead from vhs player into one end of converter box And then hdmi cable out of other end of converter box into my new smart tv and job done!Couldn’t be simpler.Just note that the converter box requires a power source which is via a micro usb cable which is supplied so it’s just a case of plugging that into a usb plug which isn’t supplied but most of us have a few lying around.Highly recommended item!

Not recommend
Tested using a PAL N64 & GAMECUBEPros:.Very easy to use.Good constructionCons.Picture is worse than scart input.Tried on LG 4k tv and picture quality was very bad, screen seemed to slightly vibrate, contrast was poor,blurry.1080p setting flickered every few seconds randomly within a 10nsecond time frameIn summary,it does function, bit isn't going to meet is purpose of having a decent picture on a modern tv,certainly not an improved picture. I got it to play my n64 and gamecube on the television downstairs, rather than the older TV in the spare room but this product doesn't meet that need. Also tried to use it with Hauppauge hdvpr2 and didnt work.

Could be improved
I was looking to use my Sega Saturn on a better display, which meant using HDMI or DP. Using a standard 50Hz PAL signal, the colours seem fine, however edges are softer, and there's prominent motion blur on titles like Virtua Fighter II which run at 50fps. It's not a patch on the original SCART signal. Switching between 720p and 1080p does nothing to help. Perhaps I expected far too much? The real problem appears to be when attempting to run the Saturn in NTSC-443 - absolutely fine via SCART, but plugging into this device sends it completely out of sync. I've tried two HDMI cables plus dedicated USB 2.0 and 3.0 power, with no improvement. Interference isn't a factor, as PAL is fine.On the plus side, sound is actually fine, and the item feels hardy and well put together.[EDIT 10/06/2021] I took receipt of a better SCART cable for my Saturn today, which now shows as displaying an NTSC signal in 60Hz and PAL in 50Hz. The image quality and sharpness are massively better, there's no more motion blur, and the flickering in 60Hz has gone, however... the image is now monochrome in either mode, which leads me to believe that the device doesn't support RGB mode... which kind of defeats the point of having it, really.

It works.
In summary, it works and does what it says it'll do. It does need power to work which can be from the USB on the rear of the TV or a separate feed. My USB is taken up with rear lighting so I could not use that. I think if you are in the market for this, you have an older DVD or Video system going on a new TV. You are probably needing an upgrade to that. I kept ours for the surround sound and we rarely use DVD now, maiy stream so this was a just in case thing. Picture is watchable. Whether it's because it's 720 on ours rather than 1080, I'm not sure but it was okay. It says it will handle 1080 which will be better I'm sure.

Quality SCART to HDMI adapter!
Whilst there are many of these adapters available on the market, I always insist on something that is not just well made, but looks great too and works as advertised. Well, this item certainly ticks all these boxes. I wouldn’t hesitate for one second if this is what you need; you will not be disappointed with the quality and ease of use.

A Mixed Bag
A mixed bag of a device. I’ve tried it with Xbox and PlayStation 2 as these aren’t compatible with my new tv. They work. You get picture and sound with little or no interference. But then it gets a bit weird. Firstly it outputs in 60Hz even if you input 50Hz. Using an official RGB SCART lead for the Xbox the picture wasn’t RGB, but CVBS, which is quite blurry. 50Hz content was fine but as soon as I played a 60Hz game the picture jumped all over the place like a damaged VHS tape.So I tried the PS2. This didn’t support RGB for some reason either but 60Hz games worked fine. It also played PS1 games aswell, which haven’t worked with previous adapters in the past. It’s a mixed bag to be honest. Not RGB, doesn’t output in PAL/50Hz and doesn’t like the Xbox in 60Hz mode but it works and is easy to use.
