## Questions & Answers

**Q: how many contact the switch has**
A: it has 2 poles or contact tips

**Q: I want a switch to protect a pump from running empty. Do I want a switch that the contact closes on the rise so once the float raises the pump works**
A: The best thing is to get a switch with a normally closed contact that feeds the starter. This way when the tank gets low, the float activates ( contact opens) and turns off the pump.

**Q: Tittle reads closes on rise while the manufacturer's description reads that it open on rise...So what does it do?**
A: Typically, there is a float with a 3/16" rod, that extends through the hole in the trip arm that sticks out from the switch. This rod has collars with set screws, set at the high and low levels. As the liquid level rises, the collar on the rod pushes the trip arm upwards, which closes the switch and starts a pump. When the pump has.pumped enough liquid that the second collar on the rod, comes down and trips the arm down, which opens the switch and stops the pump.

**Q: So where does the rod go? Is that there but not pictured?**
A: The rod is not pictured. The rod goes thru the hole in the lever sticking out the front. You also should have two stoppers, one goes on the rod above the lever and one on the rod below the lever. These will turn the pump on when the water gets too high and off when it is low enough.
