Storm Extreme WIFI dehumidifier
My basement is 3000 sq ft and is 'L' shaped. Had 5 'consumer' dehumidifiers running at the same time spread out. Because of shape, it's hard to move air around. Purchased one ALORAIR Storm Extreme WiFI last year. It was able with ONE other consumer dehumidifier to mostly handle the basement. Just purchased another Storm model. The two are now spaced so they handle the entire basement. They work well- I am quite happy. Easy to use once WiFi is setup. A model without WIFi should be no more difficult that any other dehumidifier. It is a pump system, so you do need a drain available. I run mine through the basement sill to the outside.Pros-- Not a wind tunnel. Noise level is relatively quiet for the amount of air it moves.-- Mine is set to shut off the fan when the humidistat is satisfied.-- LESS power required per unit than for each 'consumer' model! Handles a MUCH larger volume. NOTE: if you have a 'consumer' model and it's NOT keeping up, once you install this one it WILL run longer to get the humidity down so it will consume more power over time.-- Pump works well. On first attempt, seasonal pump cleaning looks time consuming. It's actually not bad after the first time. Probably less than 30 minutes once you have done it once. Note: Once inside, you DO need to unplug the pump drain hose from the pump itself (easy) to lift the pump, but the wires can be left connected.-- I placed them on 2 layers of concrete blocks (2 X 2 arrangement). I found the air movement is better up about 12 to 14" off the floor. My air outlets are pointed in the most un-obstructed direction, and I have nothing in the way of the air intake. I have seen some instructions to point it so it blows along a wall; that didn't work well for me.-- Filter is easy to access and replace or clean-- They answer their emails-- WiFi- I wanted WiFi access. I live on a hill, and thunderstorms always take out appliances every year. I wanted to be able to shut it off remotely if I am away and a storm is coming. Nerd note: Shutting it down via wifi still leaves it connected to the power line, although that's a big help. The shutdown allows the compressor to turn off gracefully. I also have a remote house lighting system. I have that system switch a relay off (true power off) to the dehumidifier once it has shut itself down. Works well. The dehumidifier remembers it's settings at power off so it wakes up OK when power is reapplied.Cons-- The only one so far is WiFi setup. I always have to remember that their English is far better than my Mandarin (hope I got that right). I am surprised that companies don't use native speakers to write the setup; it HAS to be less expensive than support calls. That said, the WRITTEN WiFi setup routine is really way more complicated / confusing than it needs to be.WiFi tips:-- It's connected to my guest network with my other 'appliances'. I absolutely do not trust appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, sprinklers, cameras) to be secure- I want it separated from my main network. There is a bit of a delay accessing it from my 'real' network, but no different than cellular. If you set it up with a phone and use Guest, be sure to set the phone to the guest network BEFORE starting the app. You must create an account (not bad). Expect Mandarin text here and there on buttons. You have to take a guess. I go with the one that's darkest ;). If you setup more than one dehumidifier on WIFI, make sure to tell your phone to FORGET the network created by the previous dehumidifier before you attempt the next one- even though the setup password is the same! Expect once set up that changing dehumidifier names and temp preferences (F/C, filter timer reset) will not stick right away. After a few hours (!) the changes suddenly appear. Thereafter it's pretty quick. Overall, once debugged, the app works fine. After the connection is OK, make sure to create a 'Workplace". Mine is just 'Basement'. Yes, you need to enter all the address info. Make something up if you prefer. Then import the dehumidifiers into the Workplace (easy). It all seems to be more stable once that's done. In short, intial WiFi startup is the problem; it could be solved with a native speaker re-write of the instructions.-- Last, I use the two of them in my home. No idea how they would hold up under commercial use in and out of trucks.

Buyer beware- unit didn't make it 3 years
I don't see a lot of reviews about the longevity of the item. I purchased this item on 9/22/22. It is now April 2025, so I have used the item around 2.5 years in my crawl space. A few months ago we had to turn off the item momentarily. The dehumidifier would not turn back on. We contacted customer service and they said the problem was the motherboard, and they sent a new one. We replaced the motherboard and the item worked. Just 2-3 months later we had to turn off the item to replace the filter. Same issue came up and the item will not turn back on. We contacted customer service and they are saying again they will send a new motherboard. We can also choose to send the item back at our expense- around $200 in shipping fees. A full refund or new unit isn't even promised with shipping the item. They just say they will "evaluate." I feel like customer service is boxing us into a corner. They know we won't pay that much to ship the item back- so they aren't going to agree it is defective. But clearly the issue is not the motherboard since the same issue has happened twice and the motherboard is brand new. The item itself is defective, or it's poorly constructed and was never made to last the full warranty length. I am not paying more money ($200 shipping fees) just to show it is defective. Also again- this dehumidifier didn't even make it 3 years! We are heading into summer and need a working dehumidifier. I am annoyed that we spent almost $1000 on an appliance that couldn't last 3 years.

The APP does actually work.
I don't normally write reviews, but I am responding to the other reviewed that reported that the Wifi App does not work. I can't speak to android, but on iOS (iPhone) the app does work with a glitch or bug that must be overcome. I almost did not but this unit because of the reviews stating that the App doesn't work, but since I can usually figure technical bugs, I decided to give it a try. I read the instructions, I turned the humidifier on. After 30 minutes, I confirmed that it was functioning by clicking the button to manual turn the pump on which pumped out quite a bit of water that it had collected. Also the screen showed inlet humidity was 61% and the outlet humidity was 28% and the coil temperature was 44 degrees F which is what would be expected to dehumidify. Now that I was satisfied it was working (only for 1 day - can't speak to reliability yet), I decided to try the Wifi App. I signed up and sure enough, it would not recognize my username and password and it would not directly connect to the dehumidifier. I started to think it was true that the App didn't work, but I didn't give. After 10 more minutes I git it working and here is how I did it.Summary (If you don't want to read the details). After you sign up on the App, you have to go to your email and click on the link they send you to verify your email so they will activate your account. The problem is that the App does not recognize your original email that you entered when you registered. You need to click "forgot password", go to the email they send you to reset your password (which is misspelled in the App as "Restart Password". After you enter a new password, the App will sign you in and you can follow the rest of the instruction to get it to work with the internet (I don't know if direct connect works or not).1) I installed the AlorAir App on my iPhone.2) I opened the App and went to Sign Up3) I registered with my email address and a password which I wrote down. It made me put the password in twice to register and I wrote it down, so the password being wrong should not have been an issue.4) I tried to sign in on the App and it said my account was "not activated." I realized that they may have sent me an email to verify my email address to activate the account. And, that is exactly what happened. I clicked the link to Verify my email, it sent to my web browser and open a webpage that said my "Account is now Activated."5) I got excited and went back the the App and tried to sign in using the e-mail and password I registered with. Low and behold, the App told me something like "User credentials incorrect" or "Username or Password is not correct." I tried multiple time and it would not recognize me. I know I had the correct password, because it sent me the email to activate. I knew it was recognizing me and the account activated because the the App now said Username or Password is not correct" rather than "not activated." I gave up and thought the App actually didn't work.6) However, when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, it popped into my head to try to click on "Forgot Password". I did this, they immediately emailed me a link to reset my password. I entered a new password (it only has one password field with no confirmation of the password, so write it down accurately) and clicked submit. It said password reset successful.7) I want back the App and signed with me email and the new password and it logged me right in!8) Then I had to get the Dehumidifier to log on the internet. The App just sat there frozen with a spinning icon and the unit was not connecting to the internet. I turned the dehumidifier off, unplugged it for 15 seconds then turned it back on. I manually closed the App by swiping up on it on my iPhone. I reopened the App, signed in again, followed the instructions on the screen carefully and this time it hooked right onto the internet and is working Great!
