KMS HairPlay Gel Wax, 3.4 Fl Oz

I was using Matrix Switch Flicks for over 10 years. A product that went through various packaging changes, they continued and discontinued the line throughout the years. It was completely discontinued this year (2015) and I finally ran out of my supply as I always bought 10 bottles at a time since it was very cheap @ $7 a 3.4 oz bottle. Not understanding why a company would discontinue making the best hair product ever known to mankind, I had to quickly find a replacement product. Characteristics that I liked about Matrix Switch Flicks was that it was not greasy, easy to apply, holds short hair throughout the entire day without having to re-apply (re-applying actually makes it worse), no overpowering fragance, only had to use very small amount to apply, and did I mention, was not greasy, most important it did not make my pillows greasy after a night's sleep. As my search started I bought everything from gel, wax, pommades, mixtures of all, so many different brands but to no avail did any compare to my $7 bottle of Switch Flicks. Mind you some of those other products costed over $20 which mostly still are barely used and sitting in my bathroom cabinet. As I continued my search to find this replacement, I stumbled on KMS Hair Play Gel Wax. I remember using KMS back in high school but I recall the product being a bit greasy so I was a bit reluctant to purchase it. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and purchased it on Amazon after some price comparisons and that fact of not having to drive all around town to find it. To my surprise, I finally found a decent replacement product for Matrix Switch Flicks. This product held up to the test and I don't really even have to use too much of it when I apply it. I find it better to apply on dry hair. One bottle has lasted me for almost 3 months now. Thanks KMS for making a great replacement quality product.Disclaimer: I'm not going to lie, if Matrix Switch Flicks came back I would purchase it only b/c it was cheaper and the gel holds a little bit better then KMS Gel Wax.

Very strong odor. I bought this because a reviewer said it was basically odorless. It isn't. It's quite strong. I returned it for a refund.

IF: You have short hair, want a "finished look" that is not slimy or greasy, just "accurate", then this is a great product. I used to use their molding paste all the time. I found it was difficult to keep my hair looking nice all day. Great for a few hours, but lost its effect about half way through the day. With the Gel Wax, I use less product, get a better hair style, and have a long-lasting effect that gets me all the way through a business day.The 3.4oz package (smaller than the 5+oz package I used for the molding paste) lasts as long, sometimes longer. Its a better size for travel, and on Amazon, I save about 33% as compared to my SF-Based salon.TIP OF THE DAY: push the bottom of the tube UP as you use the product. You easily get another 10-15% product out of the tube. Otherwise, you are leaving a lot of product (and money) in the garbage.

UPDATE: I paid $8.77 in June of 2017 and now, March 2018, it's over $27?! If I take cost/value into consideration, which seems logical, it's no longer a 5-star item. That kind of price tripling is just wrong. I like this stuff, but not at the inflated price.I'm not a connoisseur of hair products, but I like this gel wax. All I want is something that doesn't make my hair look like it's full of product, isn't made with harmful ingredients, and doesn't make a mess or smell weird. This stuff scores on all those points. If I add it to dry hair it's not even visually evident, but my hair stays in place without it becoming helmet-hair. (The label says it makes a softer hold if added to damp hair.) I'm a guy and my hair is only about 1.5 inches long, but it still tends to get messy, especially when I'm due for a cut. This takes care of that. Not only that, but the Environmental Working Group (EWG) gives it its best rating for health/safety based on ingredients. (Oddly though, some very similar KMS products have much worse EWG ratings, so they're not great across the board in that respect.)I'll definitely be buying this stuff again.

Due to product discontinuation, I was looking for a substitute for Matrix Switch-Flicks wax.gel combo and unfortunately I wasn't impressed with this product. I have lots of fine hair, shoulder length with long layers; and need a texturizing pliable wax to help incorporate some volume into my hair prior to styling. This is not to say the product doesn't work, it just doesn't work for me. Trial and error is often how I find new hair products and I would suggest trying this product before saying no.

I purchased this as it was compared as a great alternative to Matrix Switch Flix, which has, sadly, been discontinued. I have found NOTHING that matches the Matrix. This is a nice substitute, but not the same.

I've been using the hair product for many years now. It's one of the few products I've used that has a decent hold, yet doesn't give too much of a wet look. I like that natural look that looks like you don't have much/any product in your hair, but your hair keeps its shape in wind. I have medium-length curly hair. I'd recommend experimenting with how wet/dry you want your hair to be before putting this in. Personally, I prefer my hair to be pretty dry before putting this in. It gives it more volume and holds the shape better from my experience, as it doesn't get weighed down the same way it would if it were wet. Great product, highly recommend trying it.

I am a fan of KMS products. Prior to coming across the Gel Wax I used to use their Hair Gel.The Gel Wax is thicker than their gel, which means I can use less. One pump is all I need to style my hair. It's provides a great hold and helps my hair look great.I've never had any issues with flaking either.I've had many different hair styles thought the years and the KMS Gel Wax has never let me down.

Use this on wet hair then towel dry - seems to work well and not too greasy. Will probably order another as have just run out.

Personally i don't like this product as it leaves your hair sticky and hard to style. the KMS hair paste is much beter as it gives the same hold but is less sticky and re mouldable.

This was recommended by a hairdresser and OMG! It is fab! It doesn't make your hair sticky, it keeps it held for days and you only need a tiny amount (pea sized)!
