Is the seat cushion comfortable?

Yes, the seat cushion is very comfortable and very high-end beautiful.

Does the seat recline forward, causing the knees to be lower than the hips? Is the seat cushion comfortable?

No. The mechanism that you speak of, to tilt forward, is only found on high-end task chairs that normally cost over a thousand USD (see the higher-end models of Herman Miller, Knoll, Steelcase, Haworth, Humanscale, etc.). In fact, this very function is one of the reason those chairs cost into the 4-figures. The linkage for that action is very complicated, and therefore expensive. This chair is sub-100 USD, so I think you can do the maths.

I'm 5'9" and 165 pounds, would this chair be a good choice?

Really the only fault is that the seat cushion is too firm. Your buns won't like it I'm 260# and cringe sitting on it for over 1 1/2 hours. I'd say keep on looking for a chair with better cushioning.

How are the chairs installed?

I don't quite understand your question. It come unassembled & you put it together following the instructions.
