Live Spirits Soundtrack

The best of DM's repertoire live
Depeche Mode have clearly realised over the years which of their songs are most popular with the audience, and may well be sick of playing them! For fans though this is a great selection and they have clearly chosen a brilliant concert to record as the audience are a very lively bunch making for a great atmosphere. I'd agree that Dave's voice is showing some signs of age, but they do make effective use of backing him up where necessary and don't try to ask him to over extend his range which has been a problem in earlier live events.I wasn't keen on a lot of the Spirits album, it remains the only DM album I've not bought, but this concert bears little resemblance to it other than the cover, definitely one to add to the collection.

Depeche Mode. ..... Depeche Mode .....
This Album is a great Live Album, I have followed DM since the 80's and have all the releases, Love the early 90's stuff, this new live album has some of the newer tracks mixed in with the classics, some of which have new variations now over the years, the crowd noise is well mixed and sounds great, My CD was in a digipack wallet form so looked nice, and all the £7 at the time of orderHighly recommended

Loud audience noise in places, adds atmosphere but also detracts from strong set-list
The last series of concerts from the trio (+2 supporting musicians/band members) made this a no-brainer purchase, particularly as the track-listing focussed so much on earlier material. The new arrangements obviously feature a lot more guitar and live drumming than their earlier incarnations, but are interesting to hear even if you weren't there. CD2 is for me the stronger as it includes the best track for me from Spirit, "Where's The Revolution?" and then mainly focuses on 80s/90s classics!Dave's voice is a bit rough/hoarse, which I got used to after a while (it was part of a tour), and occasionally I was hankering for some more prominent synths, bearing in mid 2 keyboard players involved. They do get the chance to shine through on some tracks, but maybe not enough. The exhuberant crowd in one way is nice to hear, as so many 'live' albums are from the mixing desk with very low mic pick-ups of the audience, but are also too high in the mix in many places for my taste (the Intro is pretty much obliterated, it almost starts like a bootleg audience recording - you can individual crowd members shouting more than the music itself). The final mix is a wee bit tinny and some of the arrangements come across as lethargic, which is a shame as I'm sure that would not have been obvious at the gig itself. Something is missing from the mix, or maybe it's the reliance on 2 guitarists in this phase of the band's output. At times it didn't sound like Depeche at all, until either a recognised hook or Dave/Martin's voice kicks in.Great value at current price for a double, and some nice photos in the booklet. I would rate 101 and even Touring The Angel dvd as better when it comes to domestic listening, but the track-listing here (very little of Spirit, just the highlights) does make this an essential purchase to round off my DM audio collection.Fletch RIP.

Another classic live Depeche album
After an agonising wait for this to be released, all expectations were met. The production on this album is fantastic, and the addition of the enhanced sound of the audience gives this album an atmosphere that isn't found on previous live albums. The sound production is crisp and gives you the opportunity to hear both the synth sounds and the percussion such as the live drums. I saw DM three times on the Global Spirit Tour, and this album brought me right back to the moment. The track listing is great and includes songs from both nights of the Waldbuhne concert. Some highlights for me in particular: It's No Good, Cover Me, Insight, Where's The Revolution, World In My Eyes and Everything Counts (the best part of the show in my opinion).
