quality and value
I’ve been using the Vacu Vin Original Wine Saver for about a month, and after trying several other wine savers, this is the one I keep reaching for. What I like most is the click sound when pumping. That little detail makes a big difference because it clearly tells you the seal is complete, so there’s no guessing if you removed enough air. It’s simple, fast, and consistent every time. The size is great for home use, and setup is very straightforward. The stoppers fit well, and the whole system does exactly what it should: help keep opened wine fresher longer so I can enjoy a bottle over multiple days without losing as much quality. I honestly don’t have a real con. If I had to suggest one thing, it would be offering 3 pieces instead of two for people who often have multiple bottles open :D. Overall, excellent value and performance. I’d definitely recommend it to wine lovers who want an easy, dependable way to preserve freshness.

Second place wine preserver by Cooks Illustrated
Easy to operate, with no learning curve. I'm not a wine expert, so I wouldn't notice the difference on my palate if it wasn't doing its job, but Cook's Illustrated rated it very highly, so I assume that it is working :) UPDATE - SHORT VERSION - Convenient and works well, but Cook's Illustrated did some tests and found some even better products! UPDATE - LONG VERSION: This is now the second place Wine Saver at www.cooksillustrated.com, as they have found a better one that preserves wine for longer. Here's what they had to say: "For years we’ve preserved open bottles of wine either by using the Vacu Vin Wine Saver, an inexpensive ($9.29) pair of rubber stoppers with a pump that sucks the air out of the bottle, or by pouring leftover wine into a smaller bottle or Mason jar to stave off oxidation. But innovative new gadgets promise to keep wine drinkable longer. We tested six tools, including the Vacu Vin, on half-empty bottles of red and white wine, comparing and evaluating the wines’ flavors and drinkability at various time intervals. ....Our old favorite worked reliably and kept wine drinkable for a week, but two new models bested it. As of press time, these two models had kept wine drinkable for one month. (We’ll continue to taste and report, so check our website for updates.) By inserting one model's sharp, hollow needle through the cork—we never had to uncork the bottle—we could pour just the amount of wine that we wanted while activating a pressurized capsule that simultaneously fed argon (an inert gas) into the bottle to displace the tapped wine. Not even our trained wine expert could say which was fresher: a month-old bottle sealed by this product or a freshly opened bottle of the same vintage. Another, cheaper product is a worthy Best Buy: It forms a barricade against air when its balloon is lowered into the bottle and inflated just above the surface of the leftover wine. On the downside, it’s slightly finicky and can be used on only one bottle at a time." Their new winner, for a short while, was the Coravin Wine Access System, but that was recalled (see www.cooksillustrated.com for more details), and the latest first-place is the Air Cork The Wine Preserver: "Once you get the hang of lowering the food-safe latex balloon into the bottle and inflating it just above the leftover wine’s surface, this budget-friendly device effectively seals off air, preserving wine’s drinkability for at least one month (we are continuing to test). A downside: You can seal only one bottle at a time. Balloons are guaranteed for 80 uses; replacement balloons cost about $4."

Essential for Mead Enthusiasts
The Vacu Vin Wine Saver Pump has become an essential tool for enjoying my mead. Here’s why I’m impressed: Effective Preservation: This pump does a fantastic job at preserving the freshness and flavor of my mead. I can enjoy a glass and confidently save the rest for later without worrying about it going flat or losing its character. Easy to Use: The simplicity of the design is a huge plus. Just pop in the stopper, use the pump to remove the air, and it’s sealed. The process is quick and effortless. Durable and Reliable: Both the pump and the stoppers are made from sturdy materials. They’ve held up well to frequent use, and the vacuum seal has never failed me. Versatile: While I primarily use these for mead, they work just as effectively with wine and other bottled beverages. It's a versatile tool that enhances my overall drinking experience. Maintains Quality: I’ve noticed a significant difference in the quality of my mead when using the Vacu Vin. The taste and aroma remain intact, even days after opening. In summary, the Vacu Vin Wine Saver is a must-have for any mead or wine enthusiast. It’s easy to use, durable, and highly effective at preserving the quality of your favorite beverages. Highly recommended!

A reliable necessity for wine lovers
I've gone through or tried several vacuum units in the past decade. One, a one-piece unit, worked well but eventually gave up the ghost after many years when the rubber gasket that provides the seal with the bottle shredded - just from a lot of wear; unfortunately this unit was no longer to be found when I finally needed to replace it. Another one piece unit purchased recently through Amazon performed poorly, not making or holding a good seal. I also tried a two piece unit similar to the Vacu Vin, except it also never established a meaningful seal and was a total waste of money. The Vacu Vin, in contrast, is great great great. I've been using it for months now and I am very happy with it; it's consistent in providing a vacuum that lasts at least 2-3 days giving a satisfying resistance and a little pop when I pull the plug. The audible cue for when a vacuum has been achieved is a nice feature, although I must say I found that if I keep going a bit beyond the point where the cue kicks in I seem to establish a better, longer lasting seal, compared to if I stop pumping as soon as the cue kicks in. If a two piece unit works well, as this one does, it is preferable to a one piece for several reasons: First, the sealed bottle is accommodated into cabinets or fridges better, being shorter. Second, you can buy additional vacuum plugs to use with the single vacuum pump, making it easy to replace worn plugs and have more than two bottles "in circulation" at any one time. Third, you don't jeopardize the performance of the pump when you wash the plugs. While I've seen a couple reviews complaining that the pump on this unit can eventually fail after a couple of years' use, to me that is quite acceptable for something that is used every day and extends the lifetime of precious and potentially expensive wine. I would have no problem buying one of these every year if necessary, considering the money I saved by being able to make a bottle retain its quality over several days after openning. Think about it - it's like paying $12 for a year's insurance on hundreds of dollars worth of wine. Update: the seal is unbelievably good. Recently I stored a 25% full bottle for two weeks under the vacuum seal with the Vacu Vin. When I realized how long it had been in the cabinet I decided to toss the contents and when I removed the Vacu Vin plug the bottle was still under vacuum. Amazing. Don't know how good the wine was at this point - I didn't care to test it. But that's not the point. Vacuum is really excellent - at least if you pump somewhat past the audible signal that vacuum has been achieved.

Much Better Than a Plain Cork
Got this as a birthday gift for my girlfriend the wine enthusiast, but I've gotten to use it a couple of times. Surprisingly useful and reliable for the price, this device is simple and effective at not only sealing a bottle airtight, but vacuuming out the existing air in an opened bottle. At first I wasn't sure whether it was working as advertised, but upon pulling the cork out the bottle POPPED loudly from the air pressure difference. Use is simple and foolproof, but the instructions (a simple 4 stage illustration at the bottom of the box) leave a lot to be desired, and are part of why I gave a 4 star review. Until I read another review on here I didn't realize how many times you might have to pump until you hear the very distinctive cricket-click that lets you know it's sealed. The other reason I give it 4 stars is just because the corks themselves are somewhat ugly and out of place looking on an elegant glass wine bottle, especially since gray and black are not common colors on wine bottles. Admittedly this is all up to the user and in no way affects performance, but it's still something to consider. Overall though I would highly recommend this simple, cheap, but effective vacuum sealer to anyone.

Simple, reliable, and actually works
This wine saver does exactly what it says it does, and that’s honestly all I want from a product like this. It’s very easy to use—just put the stopper in, give it a few pumps, and you’re done. You can actually feel the air being removed, which gives you confidence it’s doing its job. I’ve noticed a real difference in how long my wine stays fresh compared to leaving a bottle open or just recorking it. Even after a few days, the taste and smell are noticeably better. The pump feels solid and comfortable in the hand, and the stoppers fit snugly without feeling loose or awkward. Nothing leaks, and I haven’t had any issues with the seal failing. It’s also easy to clean and store, which makes it something I actually use instead of letting it sit in a drawer. I like that it’s simple and not over-engineered—no batteries, no weird parts, just a straightforward design that works. This has helped me enjoy wine at my own pace instead of feeling like I need to finish a bottle quickly. Overall, I’m really happy with it and would recommend it to anyone who drinks wine and wants to keep it fresh without any hassle.

Reliable
I’ve been using this product for 10 to 15 years, and the only reason I’ve replaced them is because I’ve either given them away or lost them. They are absolutely wonderful and keep Wine for days. I have purchased them for friends and family as well. Excellent product.

Salud.
